The double edged sword of a place this good is the fact that it is always only a matter of time before everyone knows, a deternat perhaps to those only not native to the close and cozy confines of Wellington.
With that said if you take the time to enjoy the space the preservatoriu provides the numbers come and go and you're taken in by the cute and quirky countenance reflected the warm retro decorum of a loving grandparents home I never even knew.
The longful desires for a past never had continue through grandpa's tomato relish based beans that fill my stomach with a love the estranged and gone grandfather I knew never filled my heart with (RIP).
The cheese kransky easily takes the top place for best dog I've had in new Zealand after the relentless betrals my palet has endured from scored and fried hellers that deserved no place on my plates.
The bacon benedict served on crispy hash browns I decided I would comatose my self with in conjunction with the cannery breakfast once I smelt the indulgent aromas of the kitchen didn't disappoint either. The holendase balanced a mix of the necessary sweet and tangy flavour such a dish begs for and had me longing for a such balance in the relationship I shared with my own too tangy grandma (RIP).
The experience was topped and bottomed with delectable and velvety mochaccinos that's do not disappoint in the coffee capital Aotearoa.
Wether you're looking to relive the loving experiences you had at a Sunday brunch with the grandparents or fill the void an absence of such experiences left in you, the preservatorium cafe will provide.

Read moreI was tempted by the great reviews and headed to the Preservatorium for a late brunch. A good range of options looked promising so I went for the veggie breakfast, sans mushrooms. I was really hoping that their hash special promised a homemade hash brown - unfortunately this turned out to be a generic pre-made hb. Hopes dashed. The beans were great and flavourful but the rest of the plate was fairly standard stuff. Two other negatives: they added mushrooms (bleck) which meant I had to send the first plate back, and they didn’t have paywave so I had to do an awkward bank transfer...
Read moreCute cosy vibe, decor is nicely curated and not fake-quirky generic stuff. Food is good value, was surprised by prices compared to other cafes in the area. It was a pretty good brunch, I have an idea for you - the tomatoes that you're using for grilling are way too big, the result isn't very nice and it must hold things up for the kitchen staff waiting for them to cook. You could pre-roast them in a tray instead and reheat as required, or use smaller ones. They gave me SO MUCH salmon and the potato cakes were pretty good. Their website is nuts and has zero...
