A Gem in Whitianga - Salt Restaurant Exceeds Expectations I visited Salt on 27th July with a group of friends visiting Whitianga, and what a discovery! This restaurant is truly an asset to the local community. We started our evening in the bar area with exceptional cocktails - I enjoyed the Feijoa Mojito while a friend tried the Nutty Russian made with peanut butter whiskey. Both were superb and perfectly crafted. Since it was a cool evening, we moved to the cozy dining room where a blazing fire with beautiful décor and the piano playing in the background, created the perfect atmosphere. The food was outstanding – we shared mussels followed by the grilled fish, and every bite was delicious. The staff deserve special mention for their excellent service throughout the evening. The combination of great décor, welcoming atmosphere, exceptional food and drinks, plus attentive staff made for a memorable experience. As we were only in Whitianga for a night we didn't get to explore the hotel, though it looked like it was buzzing with activity. We just had my birthday dinner here after an AMAZING dinner elsewhere in Whitianga last night and unfortunately Salt was just OK tonight. The service and cocktails were great, however the food was very average. We had the scotch fillet (originally ordered the beef cheek at a 6pm booking - to then have them come back and say sorry they don't have any) and the grilled fish, and sadly they weren't anything to rave about. We also had the couvert for our entree and it came with only three very small pieces of toasted bread. We are massive foodies and sadly we left Salt feeling really disappointed this evening. Fantastic birthday dinner at Salt Cocktail Bar & Restaurant in Whitianga! We celebrated with a delicious meal – beef yakitori and roasted beetroot to start, followed by the Chef’s Burger and Beef Cheeks. Then we shared a desert that came with a suprise "happy birthday" message. The food, drinks, and service were outstanding.
