Recently a group of us was refused service at 7:30pm. With advisement that we were too drunk, or some such nonsense!! Those at table before the arrival of two additional people had had 2 drinks each and were eating one had no drinks as was driving. The newcomers had arrived and were laughing hard and talking about being wired on caffeine and sugar (as a drink had elsewhere was a super sweet cocktail) we can only suspect that laughing and finding funny the fact that sugar might be better than booze for a high became assessed as we were all to drunk to be served. Like honestly. The capacity of bar staff to assess people for their state is beyond belief. As a result now a group of regular customers will not be back ever! We will now go to where we can all be treated with sense and respect. Which was just a few doors down. I mean come on. It was 7:30 pm!! We weren't teenagers skulking back beer after beer. We are all mature well aging peeps there for a nice drink and a laugh and food was on take. The skills of the youth these days to assess situations is just mind...
Read moreLoved the food! Ordered the beef and blue cheese burgers, which were a real treat. Staff was wonderful and really helpful. My only critique would be that though the menu does say 'gluten free option available', it seems to cater more to those who have decided on a gluten free diet and not for those who are celiac. We ordered the spicy pizza bread (as the chef had let the lovely waitress know it could be made gluten free) but specified celiac. Unfortunately, we received gluten free bread with honey and dollops of spiced cream, which was a far cry from the advertised meal. If a menu specifies gluten free as an option, it should take into account celiac, and not have to strip a menu item of nearly everything to cater to celiac. Other than that, the non-celiac-friendly food was wonderful, as were the cocktails, and our waitress was very helpful and...
Read moreWe love going out for Sunday breakfast with the whole family. Being from tauranga , when we do decide to go in the city center we always find ourselves stuck with the same breakfast options at the popular cafes and restaurants. Today, the kids woke up late and brunch sounded inevitable . As we wandered through the CBD We were surprised to see a new alternative to our Sunday ritual had surfaced. A NEW BRUNCH VENUE AT THE BARREL ROOM! At last something new to try. It was a sunny day we sat outside, the menu was very varied and looked appetizing. We had fresh made pizzas, a delicious breakfast burger and fancy french salads with poached eggs and bacon bits, all of this topped with mimosas and virgin cocktails. It was a treat! Service was friendly and fast, food was reasonnably priced. we will be...
