I'm from New York City. As a true born and raised New Yorker, I can tell you that this pizza is the closest you'll find to the real thing in NZ, and by far the best in the country — I would know. Every time a person from NY eats a slice of pizza, we critique it. We can't help ourselves. It's a subject near and dear to our hearts. It's in our culture, in our blood, in our Italian heritage. That being said, we know when we're getting the real thing. We also know if something's been frozen, isn't fresh or just isn't right. Thankfully, Sal's does pizza well. The crust, the cheese, the sauce, all taste like home. And trust me, I would be the first to tell you if they didn't. I'd put it on par with any average, common NYC pizzeria. Try my favorite, the Manhattan, with pepperoni and mushrooms. My only criticism is that the garlic knots could use a little work. The consistency just isn't right, and they need more garlic. Sal's continues to deliver a quality, consistent product across all of its stores — I've visited the ones in Frankton, Queenstown, Pukekohe, and Mt. Wellington. I'll always stop at Sal's if I see one. It makes the experience of living so far from home just a bit more tolerable.

You ever have one of those days when your constantly dreaming of your lunch break? Cause same. What I dreamt about you ask? Some delicious Sal's pizza. So, you can imagine my dismay when I finally get my lunch break at 2:00 and walk over to find a sign on the front door reading "On lunch break be back at 4" 4!!! Now don't get me wrong, totally understand a 30 minute, maybe hour lunch break but two hours with no one in the store over lunch time?? Needless to say it was a very very sad day. Still gave 2 stars tho cause that pizza do be bomb

I am both absolutely annoyed and disappointed- I arrived at 8:05pm to find that you guys closed an hour early I’ve travelled since 8am this morning from Oamaru sightseeing on my way to Queenstown and I thought how exciting does this place look and has good reviews - if only I knew I’d waste my time to head down to your establishment. Now I don’t think I’ll even bother with this place as much as the food looks really good. Sour taste on my holiday.

Recently, Been there for the first time. I wanted to try sal's Authentic pizza n got opportunity to visit. I thought before buying a whole pizza I should try some slices first. Was on a trip to queenstown from Auckland and was craving sals and a movie in my hotel room. Went into the Frankton store and went to place my order they told me the Wait could be “long” I asked how long and they said 20min then said it could be “longer” which I was more than happy to wait as I was hungry the look on there faces when I said sweet I’ll wait was like they could not be bothered at all and wished I would leave the shop after 45 mins I got my pizza and all was good with the food.
