Came for a hearty flat dinner on 3/3/19, and a lovely hearty dinner were we served! Definitely up there, unfortunately not comparable to places in Auckland, but for Dunedin it's not bad! Prices were average, similar to other Asian restaurants in town, and the portion sizes are also similar and standard to places such as chopsticks. The quality was definitely there, it was less busy than chopsticks but I felt like this added quality to our order when they were busy preparing it in the kitchen! We ordered quite a few items and the servers were very lovely and patient. They also have a yum cha menu which is yummy and decent, second to Si Chuan 88, their menu is just not as extensive, but the quality is there! Special pork chop 4/5 Perfect texture, sweet and tangy, soft to chew very special! Tastes just like your typical well done sweet and sour pork but with some bone!! Everyone enjoyed. Sour fish soup 4/5 Very tender fish, great accompaniment choice with vermicelli. Mild flavor good soup. Sizzling beef 3.5/5 Tender and Smokey but a bit on the salty side. Easy to chew and flavor is good. Good variety of vegetables. Fried noodle 2.5/5 Just your average noodles nothing too special, typical not over the top oily savory taste. Spare ribs 3/5 Bit dry but good to chew. Meat was a bit tough but the taste was not bad, also slightly crunchy exterior. Beef brisket 5/5 Really tasty, recommend!! Good flavor and the meat is very tender with good ratio of fat to lean meat. Very saucy and was delicious! Beans 2.5/5 Bit hard and not as tender as I've had at other restaurants but flavor was still good, slightly sweet but no wow factor. Ma po tofu 4/5 Good tender tofu accompanied with bits of (pork?) meat and other vegetables, very saucey and...
Read moreAt the moment, it's probably one of the best Chinese restaurants in Dunedin. I often go here for dimsum and occassionally for dinner. We have been going here for Chinese New Year reunion almost every year now. The owner is very friendly and accommodating, especially when we had special request for reunion dinner. The dimsum is really nice with good portion. It's really good for its price. My favourite items are radish cake with XO sauce and sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf. Make sure you make a reservation if you are coming here for dinner especially for a bigger party. This place is quite popular with locals and it's located in the CBD, close to many hotels and students quarter. If you are in town and craving for Chinese food, do come and...
Read moreWe placed our order and the sweet and sour pork came out after 5 mins, which I thought was strange as it should take some time to cook. It was very dried pork, but we were hungry so ate half a plate. I asked the young waiter why so dried, he said they pre deep fried the pork ONCE A WEEK FIRST. I thought i heard it wrong, so asked him again, then he sad they may be deep fried the pork in the middle of the week... but you are serving this to me on Sun!!! i was horrified to learn this and told him that I certainly won't ordered it if I knew it is a week old pork. I lived in Hong Kong for 20 yrs, no body would precooked it once a week first. Vege was nice, but who doesn't know how...
