Love to give this a negative score. Notice how there is no e-mail contact on their website...that's why they give a phone number so that they can just wave you off when there is something you would like to feed back to them. Lets just list the issues I was confronted with when I took my son and his friend out for a birthday dinner. Prices on the website are wrong; floors dirty and sticky only 15 minutes after opening for service; all cutlery was visibly dirty; food was terrible, luke warm buffet food, with the 'special thai green curry' being congealed and I had no way of spooning onto my rice because of how dry and 'stuck together' it was; my son knocked over his drink and was quite embarrassed about it, when I asked for something to clean it up, I was handed a wet cloth and spent the next 10 minutes trying to mop up a spill with a facecloth sized cloth - MYSELF walking back and forth the restaurant to rinse the cloth; the boys had to go to the toilet, and being young they are to be accompanied by an adult, on my return they had cleared our table of the boys half eaten desert, now I have two unhappy kids to deal with on the way home as they couldn't finish their deserts. If you are the owner of this restaurant reading this review, I suggest that you take this advice sincerely, put up correct pricing, have your staff trained on food hygiene standards and employ a e-mail contact for your less than satisfied customers so that we don't have to share our disgruntled experiences on the web...
Read moreI seldom write reviews here but I must do it this time. Great Taste is totally underrated and indeed it is a gem in town. $13 for a buffet lunch with free tea. The food is of course nothing fancy but is practical enough. As a HK Chinese, I know what Chinese food is. Two dishes of vegetables with meat, two dishes of fried chicken (two ways of cooking), fried wontons, fish & chips, spring rolls, chicken nuggets, two different sauces (sweet & sour included) and two types of soup (corn & miso). Fried rice and fried noodles are there too. The environment is nice too, clean and big. Instead of Chinese songs, they played relaxing English songs and that made my dinning experience very enjoyable. Staff is friendly and I saw a waiter (the boss?) bring a dish of vegetables (directly from the kitchen) to a customer as there weren’t a lot available on the buffet table). I went to a noodle shop another day and it was $21 (one bowl of noodle & a pot of small tea). That ‘s why I went to Great Taste again before I head to my next stop. They don’t serve salad and dessert anymore but it is not a big deal vindy they...
Read moreI really enjoyed myself and would recommend that whoever you are reading this :-) you should stop reading and just get over there right now for a good feed :-) All the bad reviews are about previous owners. This is probably the only place that I have found in New Zealand where you can actually eat as much as you want :-) coming from America where an all you can eat buffet is very common I was surprised to find that it is a rare thing in New Zealand :-) I went just an hour before closing time on a Tuesday when you might expect the worst out of a restaurant :-) as I slowly and methodically tested every dish available I became more and more pleased :-) everything was fully stocked and fresh as :-) anything you might say negative was in fact a positive thing for me :-) I felt the price very reasonable and was actually pleased to see that the soda was not included :-) I don't like soda :-) and so I didn't have to pay extra for it :-) I was quite amazed that even taking small portions I could not try it all before I was full :-) this restaurant Great Taste in Dunedin actually had good Mexican...
