What an incredible idea to have a McDonald’s in an airplane-shaped setting! This unique dining experience in Taupō is absolutely brilliant and one-of-a-kind. From the moment you see the vintage DC-3 airplane standing proudly as part of the restaurant, it’s impossible not to feel amazed by the creativity and design. The attention to detail is impeccable, from the sleek exterior to the interior seating area inside the plane itself, giving you a sense of dining mid-flight! Located just a 2-minute walk from the stunning Lake Taupō, this McDonald’s is perfectly situated for visitors to enjoy a quick meal with a view. The outdoor seating area complements the quirky setup, making it an excellent spot to relax after exploring the lake. I was impressed by how seamlessly the airplane integrates into the overall restaurant design, adding an element of fun and surprise to the dining experience. The staff were friendly, and the service was efficient despite the steady flow of curious customers wanting to experience this iconic spot. The food quality was up to McDonald’s standards, but the real star here is the ambiance and uniqueness of the location. It’s not just a place to eat; it’s an experience to remember. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or just stopping by to admire the setup, this airplane-shaped McDonald’s is a must-see in Taupō. Brilliant concept, great execution, and an unforgettable experience!

I recently visited the McDonald’s in Taupō, renowned for its unique charm—and I must say, it’s truly one of the coolest McDonald’s I’ve ever seen, especially with the plane! The ambiance really sets it apart, making each visit memorable. On the evening of 18/07/2024, I stopped by to pick up a takeaway order of 3 McSpicys and 3 Cheeseburgers. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a mix-up with my order. When I checked in my car, I noticed I only received one McSpicy. The staff were prompt and apologetic when I pointed this out, and the same staff member quickly added what was thought to be the remaining McSpicys to my takeaway paper bag. However, it turned out that only one additional McSpicy had been added. After another check in the car, I had to return a third time to finally receive the third McSpicy. Although I’m grateful that the issue was resolved each time, having to go back three times did take away from the convenience of a quick takeaway. The food quality was what you’d expect from McDonald’s—consistently good. I’m not here to complain about the food but rather to suggest a bit more attention to ensuring orders are complete before handing them off to customers. It would save a lot of time and hassle. Thank you for taking the time to read my feedback. I hope it helps in improving the service as I look forward to many more visits to this iconic location!

McDonald's Taupo isn't your average fast-food joint—it's a time capsule waiting to be explored. The vintage DC-3 airplane parked nearby adds a thrilling touch, setting the stage for an unforgettable visit. While we didn't dine inside the airplane itself, its presence added an extra layer of charm. Fun fact: this historic aircraft once advertised a car dealership before joining McDonald's over 30 years ago. But it's not just about nostalgia here—McDonald's Taupo offers delicious food and a welcoming vibe. Despite not having massive portions, every bite bursts with flavor. And the views of Lake Taupo? Simply breathtaking. Plus, the attention to detail is top-notch. From ample parking to pristine restrooms, every aspect is carefully tended to, ensuring a comfortable experience. Whether you're a local or passing through, McDonald's Taupo is a must-visit. It's where history meets modern convenience, where every meal feels like a journey through time. Don't miss out on this unique experience!

Pretty cool!!! It proudly boasts the title of being the coolest McDonald's in the world, and for good reason! The highlight of this restaurant is the decommissioned airliner that sits right inside. It's an incredible experience to dine inside the plane and even catch a glimpse of the cockpit through the glass doors. However, it's worth noting that the cabin itself may not be the most comfortable place to enjoy a meal on a sunny afternoon. With no windows and no air conditioning, it can get quite hot and crowded with tourists. The waiting time for food orders might be longer due to the high demand. Nevertheless, Taupo McDonald's is an absolute must-visit for capturing memorable photos and experiencing something truly out of the ordinary.

I admit it, we came for the plane. But the plane is totally worth the trip! Where else in the world can you order your Happy Meal, walk past the kiddies’ play area, climb the stairs and eat your burger in a genuine DC10? I thought it would be loud with lots of children, but the plane is more of a draw to the adults. A display of photos with explanatory text just outside the cockpit is really interesting in telling the story of this particular aircraft. Sure it’s gimmicky, but it’s unforgettable and actually really fun. Do be sure to get there when it is open so you aren’t disappointed. I think when we were there in early May it closed at 4:30.

Yes the plane is cool but don't get over excited as the plane is always jam packed with people and is always hard to get a seat in. It also smells so much like food making it hard to breath in there considering that there's only a small door open and no windows. There are some limited items in this mcdonalds (can't remember what they are sorry). The food taste like any other ordinary mcdonalds nothing to really get hyped about. Would only really recommend if you really like planes or need a quick breakfast. Though I did find it cool that you could spin the tires and propellers. Also BONUS the icecream machine works!
