Duck Island Ice Cream — Restaurant in Waitematā

Ice cream was great, nothing to pick on. They had gluten and dairy free options which was a nice touch for people on special diets. We love the fact that their napkins, spoons and sticks were biodegradable and could become compost too.

Unfortunately, we cannot say the same for their service and attitude. Straight face and judging eyes while impatiently waiting for us to decide on the flavours. There was no one else except us in store and we didn't even ask for tastings even though it was our first time visiting. We felt a strong sense of discrimination (we were from Singapore) in the air and we couldn't wait to leave. What a difference it was when they served the locals!

Such a pity for a place where you'd go to be happy but instead the experience left us upset and disappointed. No amount of ice cream would lift our spirits...

Goose lagoon is fantastic. The only flavour that needs work is their collab tub with Supreme coffee - it’s starts with a pleasant light sweetness from the chocolate but quickly turns in a somewhat unbalanced bitterness, ending in an over-roasted coffee aftertaste.

Ambrosia? Yes. Cherry + Chocolate is bomb, and chewy marshmallows make for a great contrast from the chunky dark choco pieces.

White Chocolate Macadamia & Pomegranate? Yes. Extremely addictive, perfect harmony of flavours makes it so easy to consume way too much of. Simple yet effective.

Strawberry & lime leaf? Amazing, honestly can’t believe it’s vegan. I think the lime leaf somehow tricks you into thinking there is dairy, and perfectly masks the coconut base as well.

Boysenberry Cheesecake? Heavy, decadent. For normal...

Half an hour early for work I found myself on a 50% battery on my e-skateboard so I decided to blaze down Ponsonby Rd between the waves of traffic, and treat myself to an iced dessert, support local right?!

Yep we're in there for a double or triple scoop of iced dessert for $8. Yep thinking chocolate and caramel, yet I call boysenberry cheesecake and looking around I choose only one other, that was blueberry cheesecake. That was the wisest choice I made that day. Utter bliss for the frozen dessert variety of fast food, the smooth vanilla interrupted by explosions of berry and huge lumps of cheesecake base throughout the crispiest waffle cone.

I cannot wait to get the same cone selection again.
