Pilar Cafe & Eatery — Restaurant in Waitematā

Pilar is located on the K Rd end of Ponsonby Road. I ended up there after the other place I was aiming to go to was closed. It wasn't a bad option. They do seem to have wifi but you need to ask for the password at the counter. The cafe isn't very large but does have quite a few tables and looks out onto the Netwon intersection. The menu is standard cafe food. They also did have cabinet food with sweet and savoury treats. I grabbed a hot chocolate as well as the steak sandwich. The hot chocolate wasn't bad. The steak sandwich was nice with the onion rings and the runny fried egg. The whole steak was placed over the bread, so it got a bit awkward when trying to cut the steak. Stopped in today initially just for a coffee and something sweet from the cabinet whilst I did some work in the morning. Ended up staying for quite a few hours happily tapping away on my laptop and even stayed for lunch!

Cute little cafe, with relaxing music and a good vibe. Customer service was above and beyond, I was greeted with a massive smile and my water cup was constantly refilled. I could see from sitting there a while that despite only having opened recently, they had some regulars already which didn’t surprise me as they were so warm and welcoming to everyone who came through the door. I reached out to Pilar staff thru insta as I wanted to set up a credit for a nice guy who has a shop a couple of doors away from the Ponsonby store.

Summer was extremely helpful, friendly and awesome to deal with on my mission. She even designed a gift card for me and sent it to the guy for me as I'm not a local. If this is how gr8 the staff are, I would highly recommend their store and service. No wonder the guy said how gr8 the cafe is since it opened.
