We stayed at the Amora for three nights as a couple when in town for a sporting event. While there were pluses and minuses to recount, our overall review is that the Amora fell well short of the four-star rating it had advertized. Our room was a plus; spacious, clean, modern, power-points in all the right places, our particular room was a sensible blend of hotel and apartment living, with a kitchenette and washing machine well appointed and placed. It was quiet for our stay and we weren’t disturbed by outside noises and guests. The service our room received was patchy and disappointing; in the maid-service, on the first day the maid didn’t show until well into 4:30pm; we had already been out most of the day and were hoping the room would be freshened for our arrival. The next day we got no service at all. Towels when requested showed up promptly, as did the in-room dining ordered one afternoon. The breakfast buffet was a real let-down. First we had a confusing quibble over the charging / cost of the breakfast on arrival; then the actual offerings were the real disappointment. Pikelets advertised as pancakes. Cheap sausages, tiny pastries… it was by all accounts mediocre, and though four staff seemed present for breakfast there was no table service for us. The advertised gym facility was located in the basement car-park and very poorly maintained with second-hand equipment. We hope the Amora will take this feedback and strive to deliver the four-star rating it seeks, as our experience showed it was not ready to claim that accolade.

The photo of the room itself may be misleading given the wide view the phone camera took - it does look bigger than it is in reality. This has been the worst stay I’ve ever experienced in my travels. We were in what they termed a Family Room for 4 adults but upon check-in, it was obvious that the space was for a double room at best. There were 2 Queen beds squeezed into the tiny room, the bedside lights on the wall indicated clearly that it was meant for just 1 Queen bed, maybe a King. The tv was placed on the study table and so yes, there was a chair right in front of it as well, cos there was no where else to place it. Were we expected to watch Tv at a 15” distance?? The doors to the drawers in the kitchenette were also falling off. The 4 of us ended needing to eat/drink on our bed cos there just wasn’t enough space. And you definitely cannot possibly leave anything more than 1 luggage opened on the floor without tripping over something. The toilet is another huge issue. It looked like it belonged to an old hospital from the 70s. There was no vanity area, the tiles were grimy and greyed from age. The shower curtains were also disgusting and dirty. The toilet and shower were also in the same room. So imagine 4 persons needing to take queue numbers just to do a no.1, 2 or shower. This place made our stay in Auckland uncomfortable and dreadful, at best. It was money wasted and a much looked forward to travel experience to Auckland ruined. Thanks for nothing, Parkside.

Room needed better maintenance, Manager or Supervisor needs to thoroughly check the condition of the rooms 1.) Air-conditioning was not working, addressed with staff, who then came up to stand on a chair to check if air was coming out. If you have to stand on a chair to check if the AC is working, it's probably not working good enough to cool the room, luckily it was cool weather and had our windows open. AC did not cool the room no matter how long the it ran. 2.) We had the Windows open, it was a good thing as the room had a constant mouldy stench about it 3.) Mould on the bathroom tiles potentially due to lack of ventilation/ exhaust in the bathroom, cleaning 4.) Freezer was broken, my ice cream spoiled and got a stomach ache 5.) Bed head was so worn out, it was so sad to see considering we got a " jacuzzi room" and as soon as you see that bed head, you just know it's not going to be a pleasant stay. 6.) Flickering lights, dead lights 7.) Internet was erratic Bed was comfortable. Washer-dryer working. Noise level was expected as it is quite central and in a busy area. Was easy enough to check in and out. Cleaning was pretty decent, I think it's just maintenance of the general apartment and checking of the condition of the rooms should be done more often. Manager should have a walk around or whoever is in charge. Family came over to visit us as we were on holiday, couldn't recommend the hotel to them.

Avoid at all cost!!!!! They know the A/C is broken and still rent you the room, no refund. Unethical! We checked in today on Saturday afternoon and went up to the room. It was very warm, 27.5°C (about 82°F) in the room, so I tried to turn on the A/C. No luck, so thinking I must have done something wrong with the controls, I went down to the front desk for help. When I told the staff about the problem, they knew right away that the A/C wasn't working in our room and other rooms. They said that there was nothing they could do because maintenance doesn't come in on the weekend. That was a lie! By now, reading other recent reviews, I find that this is an ongoing issue they have been having for quite some time. Please check other recent reviews on Trip Advisor and other sites to confirm.

They are knowingly renting rooms that have no A/C, which makes them basically unusable without giving their guests any advance warning. And once you are already in the room, they tell you that no refund is possible since you have already checked in for the night. I will be filing a claim with the New Zealand government under the Consumer Guarantees Act. If you have had the same or similar experience with this hotel, I would encourage you to do the same. It is the only way these types of businesses will stop their bad behavior.

(Full Disclosure - I edited my original post above and reposted so I could add this update. They just changed their minds and decided at 10:30 at night that if I wanted to pack up my stuff and try to find a new place to stay tonight they would give me a full refund. Had they done that several hours ago when I made the initial request, that would have worked. At this point wandering around an unfamiliar city at midnight with our luggage trying to find another place to stay isn’t really a good option. I think they knew that when they finally made...

Parkside Hotel and Apartments||What a gem! What a great experience! I chose Parkside Hotel because of its location. I was on a two-week holiday and my room had a stunning view of Myers Park in Auckland's CBD. I soon learned that Parkside not only offered the perfect location for me, but provided the utmost in hospitality! Having my bed made and my fluffy towels changed out daily was such a luxury. Every day that I didn't have plans for an early activity, I took advantage and slept in, as my bed was comfortable and restful. My one-bedroom suite also had a kitchen with a cooktop, microwave, and refrigerator. It came with everything I needed to prepare and serve my own meals. The housekeeping staff were all so friendly, quick, and efficient. The second day of my stay, I happened to be there when they came by; I asked if there might be a pillow that was a little shorter in height. No problem: in a few minutes I had 2 pillows that were just right for me! Everyone that I encountered was absolutely lovely and helpful. From the folks who greet you at the reception desk to the maintenance man, all the staff at Parkside are friendly, capable, and knowledgeable. I was fortunate to speak to the Front Office Manager, Vikash Kumar, when I needed help with my booking. Later, when I met him, I found him to be gracious, professional, and personable. His approach to customer service and the treatment I received from everyone I met, exceeded my expectations. The quality of my accommodation was superior and the service exceptional. I recommend Parkside Hotel if you just need a few nights or an extended stay. As for me, I am...
