Used to love this place until the security turned all racist and homophic. 2024 guys, you should check the personnel you are hiring. After hours being inside I was approached by a rude and unprofessional bouncer telling me I couldn’t wear what I was wearing (a vest). Again I was already in for hours when they said that. All my female friends asked why it was an issue what I was wearing but them wearing cleavage and less was fine. They simply said: “That’s the rule for men”. Again, this was not advised at the entrance and was I was already in for hours (and have already spent my money in drinks) they rudely came to say that. Not an opportunity or a chance to professionally being taken to the side and properly being explained about the objective reasons regarding any “dress code” (that it is not posted anywhere in the venue, website, etc.). When I asked the manager several times regarding the objective reason, not only he did not answered the question, but also tried to grab me in an attempt to censured me. I ask him politely not to touch me, and he said: “You are not listening”. I answered: “I am listening, but I asked about the objective reason, and you are not answering my question”. His response was: “Well there’s not objective reason, is ALL subjective”. So he admitted that basically the staff are allowed to arbitrarily decide who to let in the premises, based on pure discrimination… Not to mention that having a dress code, is fine, but not updating your dress code to meet European and Western fashion is doing bad business. You would think that a place with such a prime location would teach their staff professional behaviour. In addition, a good friend of mine was there, wearing a singlet and he was not told anything regarding this (despite of supposedly “singlets” not being allowed by the dress code). I hope the place investigates the matter and take some measures… NZ is turning to be a bad country because of these kind of things… This is really sad. Again this is 2024… or are we living in the age where is controversial for women and men to show some skin? Clearly if cleavages and singlets are allowed for women, should be allow for men… or this is only allowed based on the objectification of women for...
Read moreWe’ve been regulars at this bar every Tuesday because it used to be a welcoming spot where Latin music created a fun and inclusive atmosphere for the Latin community. We’ve always appreciated the kindness and professionalism of the manager and the tall guy with tattoos, who have consistently provided excellent service. Unfortunately, our recent experiences have been soured by the attitude of one blonde bartender.
Last week, we heard about an incident where this bartender was reportedly rude and discriminatory towards a group of Latin customers who wanted to contribute songs to the playlist. From what we were told, she rejected their requests in a disrespectful manner while happily accepting those from other non-Latin patrons, even making derogatory comments about Latin music.
This week, we returned hoping things would go back to normal. However, the Latin music, which used to start around 8 or 9 p.m., never played, despite the majority of the crowd being Latin. When we asked, we were told it wouldn’t be played at all, which was disappointing given it’s one of the main reasons we frequent this bar.
It’s frustrating that the actions of one staff member can tarnish the experience at a venue we’ve always enjoyed. We truly value the friendly service from the manager and the tall guy with tattoos, but the disrespectful attitude of this bartender has left us and others in the Latin community feeling unwelcome. We hope this issue can be addressed, as this bar has so much potential to remain an inclusive and enjoyable space...
Read moreWent there for drinks around 9pm Sunday with a few workmates, there was a young guy at the entrance asking to check our ID’s as expected. A few of us were sceptical because he didn’t look like security since he was shabbily dressed but provided an ID that said otherwise when we asked. As soon as we entered he said he wasn’t actually a security guard, just someone trying to be funny for his friends. We tried to inform staff at the bar but she found it amusing since she knew them - probably friends. So we proceed to sit down and have our drinks only to be interrupted by the same guy who pretended to be security asking us why we didn’t find it as amusing as him and his friends. Firstly, we don’t find it amusing when someone pretends to be an authority who we provide our legal ID to. Secondly, it’s irresponsible for the staff informing their friend on who it was that complained, it’s a matter of safety and security that they clearly missed. Hoping someone sees this and takes it seriously so it doesn’t happen to someone else. We surely won’t be back...
