The staff were so accommodating. With no vegan options on the menu for breakfast they were very supportive and happy to alter their big breakfast to suit...however they didn't make sure to keep our food separate from the meat etc and I became very ill within 10 mins of eating. So while still in the Cafe I was sick for a good hour before being shown where a doctors was so I could get some help. The staff were not forthcoming in how they prepared the food or what possible containmation may have occurred, which would have helped me understand what was making me so sick. They didn't offer any kind of compensation for our meal or the additional cost of my doctor's visit. Real care should be taken when preparing food for people with dietary requirements. I hope this was a lesson for Ruby's staff. Really disappointed in how this ended. I had to travel home 5hrs while sick, and am home sick today. Update - After a follow up email they agreed to compensate my meal and doctors visit. 2 weeks on and I am still unwell which has resulted in further doctors visits and testing. If they opened up and told me what error they made it could...
Read moreThe service, atmosphere and location is lovely. However, I was incredibly frustrated the menu’s allergen labels. I ordered the Corn Fritters (labeled V/DFO) and asked for the dairy-free option, only to be told after our table had ordered that they couldn’t actually serve those dairy-free as the fritters themselves include milk. When I asked about other items - Hummus & Falafel (V/VGO), Smashed Avocado (V/DFO), and Lahmajun (DF) - I was disappointed to learn that none of them could be made dairy-free either (including the Hummus & Falafel which was labeled with a Vegan option) despite the menu’s labelling.
We picked this location specifically because of the multiple allergen-friendly options. If certain items aren’t able to currently be made allergen-friendly as labeled, the menus need to be updated - either by removing or covering incorrect labels - until you can serve them.
The rest of my table (no allergens) were happy with their food....
Read moreI've had to change my review because I used to enjoy Mozaik Cafe a few years back, but the food had gradually been going downhill a bit, and the prices going up. Now they have revamped into Ruby Eatery and unfortunately I don't think I will ever be returning. The prices are outrageous and the food is even more mediocre than it used to be, with even smaller portion sizes. The staff all seem to have changed as well. They also surreptitiously added a credit card surcharge. I have never heard of a cafe, especially one owned by a larger management company (Nazar Group, and I must say I actually love their other restaurant Bodrum Kitchen in New Lynn), adding a surcharge for credit cards. Finally, their website, which has clearly been updated recently, said there was a kid's play area, but there was none to be found. They did have a decent (though very expensive) kid's menu though, and you get a good activity pack with...
