Some friends and I, finished from an event for foreigners living in Nigeria (Lagos Wing) and thought what could be a better way to end the lovely Saturday evening? We decided to go dancing. Looking up options, we found that an old school music lovers event, was holding @Shirolagos and agreed that, there was no better option of music to dance to than the oldies. Off we went to the venue and on getting there, we found a cheerful crowd. Most of the tables were reserved, as is typical of events in Lagos or, as cited in clubs on hot rotation so, we weren't really surprised to find that there were no unreserved tables. Engaging a waiter who turned out to be a conman, we were told that; "if we got a bottle of any drink listed on the menu, we would be entitled to a table as he, (the waiter) will ensure that this happened." We were happy with this new development and looked through the menu to choose from the limited options of drinks listed. Whilst we were doing that, he (the waiter) informed us that the event was been anchored by @TheGlenmorangie as a result of that, we were encouraged to get one instead. We've never had it prior to last night so, we thought why not? The grades of @TheGlenmorangie whiskey listed on the menu and their prices are as follows; Glenmorangie 18 years - #90,000 Glenmorangie 12 years - #45,000 Glenmorangie Original - #35,000 We opted for the Glenmorangie Original. We wanted to try it out and if it wouldn't work us the way we wanted, we would switch back to @HennessyUS Remember the cost? Good. Off he went to bring our drink. By now, a table had already been allotted to us but, no seats. That was to be fixed. The waiter returns with our drink and we are happy. Reminding him of his promise to get us seats, he disappeared and reappeared with one chair. One of the ladies with us who had earlier complained of her hurting feet was rescued. More seats to come, he said. Serving the drink, one taste and I'm like; "what is this?" Now, I am not in the business of dilluting good alcohol with soda but, this wasn't fine whiskey. This was crap! I silently decided that I would not drink @TheGlenmorangie ever again. Turning round, my eyes met the same disappointed look on the faces of my friends. One of the ladies even complained that; "her mouth was on fire and the drink was, so not it." I called for a soda and bottles of water. The waiter returned with a can of @pepsi & two bottles of @Aquafina Amidst gulps of water, I complained about how horribly harsh the whiskey was and none of my friends thought otherwise. We agreed to dilute it with soda and or, ice cubes. A second seat had surfaced and two ladies amongst us, were comfortably seated. I love to dance so, I was on my feet the entire time. With more soda and ice, the drink was bearable. I kept on drinking water though. Now, at about two o'clock in the morning, I called for the bill. Brethren, what my eyes saw was #221,000. @TheGlenmorangie Original of #35,000 was now #216,000. Hol'up! This was not even on the menu so, why is it in our bill? Why will we buy a bottle of drink at that rate and not been given a proper table? Why were we charged for a drink that wasn't listed on the menu? The waiter said; "when he brought the drink, I was dancing and my friend was informed on the amount." That was a lie, a huge lie! We were been scammed. We asked for the menu and it was brought to us and looking through it again, we found that the most expensive bottle of @TheGlenmorangie listed was the 18years and that is sold at #90,000. The waiter kept on insisting that this was our bill and what we drank was worth #216,000, top that with the two cans of soda and three bottles of water, another #5,000. Total bill: #221,000 We were not having it. The manager was sent for. This manager, appears and says; "so you were informed about the cost of the drink and now, you don't want to pay?!" I then asked "why we were presented with a menu and after making a choice of drink, we are billed for something else?" Bottom line,...
Read moreThe food is excellent, we have been a few times and I really enjoyed the great tastes. It may not be very authentic, but rather modernised and very tasty.
We had a funny situation though, that in my opinion wasn't resolved very well by the manager. We didn't want dumplings in portions of 4 pieces, since we were with 2 and like different things, so we asked if we could combine half portions so we can eat different things. Then were told by the waitress that we could put together a basket containing 3 pieces of dumplings each of our choice (with some restrictions but never mind), so we decided on two of these baskets hence 6 different dumplings. When the food came, it turned out we weren't getting 6 pieces, but 6 portions! So this wasn't a mistake from our side, also explained by the waitress to the manager. Im not annoyed by the mistake, these things can happen. But the way it was resolved bothers me. The manager gave us the option to choose any of the portions, and would just charge us for whatever portion we chose. Hold on a minute, as if that is a compromise. Nothing got solved here. There weren't even the items of our first choise, because they were excluded from the basket deal. They staff just stood there with the six portions, and would rather throw it in the bin than give us what we agreed on in the first place. So we were forced to pick two, each of us could only eat and taste one type of dumpling, and we settled for it. What I don't understand is that a manager doesn't accept it was their mistake, give the customer what they wanted because it was all prepared already anyway. Take your loss and dont make the mistake again, that easy. Nope, she choose unhappy customers, stick to the rules, throw the food we want in the bin, give us the food we don't want, why?? As if it was us who misunderstood the offer, no, we were told wrongly. Really terrible mannager, doesn't understand...
Read moreNow this place was just lovely and amazing. P. S a long and detailed read
First the atmosphere, the music was so calm and soothing, and there was even a live music from a woman whose voice sounded like an angel. I thought was recorded at first till I saw her
The service. I must say, I think they were actually trained in service, because these guys were amazing, the person assigned to my table was so calm and patient in explaining even when my questions were too much, *and I ask lots of questions *.
The food, one of the most important parts right? I went for the buffet, and I served myself at first, though I was helped by the staff and we could pick anything, we first served ourselves the appetizer. The soups were amazing, I basically had all the food I watched in movies, their white soup was amazing, I tasted the seaweed wrapped rice as well (I forgot the name). I had the sushi, dumplings, prawn soup, etc. I had so much to eat I had to loose my trouser zip for space, lol. Then came the main course, Holy Moly, delicious doesn’t begin to cover what I tasted, but there was a particular dish which was just too foreign for my tongue to accept, but I loved the rest, and then came my desserts. I was so full I passed off the remaining desserts to my friend. please note that you have three hours for the buffet to order what you want, anything after that would incur an additional cost
Finally the price, Now Per person, we paid about 48 or 49k, I’ve forgotten the exact amount . But the buffet only happens on particular days so you’ll have to check their website or ask them.
you have the option to use chopsticks or fork and knife, they have extremely neat restrooms too, and lovely artwork. unfortunately no pictures as I was too invested in the food.
would I go again, a definite Yes. I...
