My experience at the Soft Opening of this beautifully designed restaurant was nothing short of enjoyable.
Firstly, on getting there, the ‘WAITSTAFF’ were very welcoming and polite and helpful at helping us find a place to sit. There are 2 floors in the place. Downstairs is more for the in-and-out diner while the upstairs has a more cozy vibe to it with a bar and booths. Our waiter patiently took us along until we found a table we liked and was pleasant throughout our time there.
The ‘DECOR & AMBIENCE’ I would say was made for the Afrocentric Art Lover which goes in line with the place being an AfroFusion Restaurant. From the Wall Paintings to the Art Pieces to even the details in the ceiling decor, a lot of thought was put into bringing the spaces together. They didn’t fall short on the music either, went perfectly with the theme.
The ‘FOOD’ which is the main attraction was in fact very good. A lot of times we are all skeptical about Abuja Restaurants that open up with nice aesthetics and fall short on the food but RÓDO came through. The Menu was limited as is was a Soft Opening. We started with the “Yajichurri Chicken Wings”. I’m a fan of wings and have had a LOT of variations and this would easily place in the good ranks. It wasn’t too peppered but had the kick. Nicely grilled and not charred. For the main course, I was torn between “Rodo Claypot” and the “Native Rice Paella”. I wanted the full AfroFusion experience and see their take on the Paella so we had the latter which incidentally served 2 and the portion is very generous, believe me, it does serve 2. I am not so much a fan of fish as opposed to other seafood which is opposite for the Average Nigerian so for me, i would have like more others than fish but didn’t ask if it could be an option as it was a soft opening and didn’t want to be annoying to the kitchen. Asides from that, the dish was very tasty and super filling. We were so full we unfortunately had no room for dessert. However, i had my eye on their “Pap Brûlée” (The AfroFusionism in the place is creative) but I’ll def get it next time.
The ‘DRINKS’; where i usually get scatterbrained so I usually stick to what i know. I had Zobo Iced Tea, now I know that sounds very minimal of me but again I was there for the experience (AfroFusion).. I love both Zobo and Iced Tea especially homemade and usually restaurants serve packaged Iced Tea which is BLEGH! I won’t lie, i was expecting to have just zobo but it actually surprised me. I had Zobo infused Iced Tea and enjoyed every drop.
In Conclusion, I can’t wait to return over and over until i try every Afro variation of food they can come up with. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and...
Read moreRodo easily becomes a favourite spot after the first and second visits!
The chefs there need to be decorated with some gold medals. The food always comes out great!
The menu appears to be afro fusion, quite experimental and uniquely so in all of Abuja.
The twice smashed plantains and habanero dip are a personal fave, followed closely by the snails and yaji chicken wings for starters.
The main meals leave you wanting more - the native rice, attieke fish, Mozambican style prawns, Nyama Choma (a personal fave, which everyone should absolutely try). The Sinasir Chicken Tacos are delicioussssss........you really can't go wrong experimenting in Rodo.
Desserts are heavenly!! Try everything in this section.
The waiters are professional and friendly
Ambience is great - music isn't too loud, the lighting and temperature are cool, easy and moderated upon request.
Pricing is moderate and fair for the quality of food they serve. For a three course meal and a drink, one should budget about 25k.
NB: Rodo does not open on Mondays!
Only downside to this place is how they haven't quite figured out serving appetizers early enough. Every time I have had my appetizers served almost immediately before my main meal 👎🏾

Read moreRodo is a Contemporary African restaurant located in Abuja. They've got a variety of options from Nigerian meals to English desserts. My friends and I ordered the Ramen & Jollof as well as the Milk cake & Agege Apple pie French toast. All the food tasted great. In fact I almost cried from the taste of the Jollof, like tears of Joy 😂. I've been eating Jollof Rice for 20+ years and never in my life have I tasted Jollof that good. I literally think they've got the best Jollof in Abuja. Prices of food range from 4K to 35k excluding drinks. The service was excellent, the staff were friendly & professional. Also, the interior design is amazing, it's giving minimalist & tribal, I love how the different colors & designs blend together. I'll definitely be revisiting @rodoabuja soon.
