French themed classy fine dining experience, shared with a similar themed hotel. I thought it was fine.
I think people who will really like this place will know right away, I didn’t know much about this place until I sat down, but I hear people like celebrating special occasions here. I think that’s the main appeal. I also think if you’re like a coffee and dessert kind of person this place is suitable for that.
What I liked about the place: Atmosphere does feel pretty French, and I’ve never been to France so I can’t vouch for authenticity. The bathroom is on the second floor and it feels like a mini adventure through a really nice environment, so that was fun. There’s a lot to look at if you have a wondering eye and I think. Makes for a great place to take pictures. I actually really loved a song playing in the background and regret not Shazamming it.
The crème brûlée was my favorite thing I got by far. As well as the Light chocolate moose, i think it’s hard to go wrong between the two. I also think the price is a pretty good value all things considered.
Everyone speaks fluent English and they have the menus in English as well. The menu is also online so you can have a better idea of what to get.
Things I didn’t like:
The service was quirky, it wasn’t bad but I don’t think I could say it was good either.
Something odd that happened was while we were ordering, about halfway through our orders our server wanted us to start over and only mention the main dish, then they will come back and get our side dishes. Which is fine but I’ve never had to do that anywhere else, and we were all confused about the request, so we just had an awkward pause and it made ordering more complicated and longer.
My date loves scallops, orders them every time anywhere we go. Unfortunately when we tried ordering them we were told it’s not available for the first 10 orders. Which I found bizarre and asked for a clarification because I genuinely was curious by what that meant. I was told “that’s what the chef told me” which honestly is fair but confusing. I looked around and saw plenty of customers, was I somehow lucky number 10? I guess I’ll never know. But the previously mentioned restart of ordering all our meals made this even more confusing because everything was being revealed to us mid process. If this sounds confusing, I apologize but this was what everyone commented on afterwards as well, so I thought it was worth sharing.
I ordered the fries because I was genuinely curious what fries would look like at this admittedly very fancy looking establishment. Once presented to me I was a bit disappointed, but I blame myself. Quickly I asked the waiter for a sauce or ketchup to dip my fries, anything really. I was met with a look of confusion and smirky “we don’t serve that here” I laughed because that’s funny but dam I guess my sad fries will have to do. I’m trying to be nice but they were half cold as well, probably sitting out since their existence is a low priority in this fancy restaurant. It was starting to feel like I’m not the customer they want to please lol.
Our friend got the Norwegian strawberries, and he had a really great experience up until his dessert. He enjoyed his baby goat, his coffee, and his mash potatoes. He spoke highly of everything but he did feel like the Norwegian strawberries was a mistake. Their presentation reminds me of my fries.
Lastly my lobster soup was something me and my date regret getting. I will leave it at that.
Overall, I can see why people think this place is great but it’s not for everyone. Which is fine, I think it’s a fine place if you adjust your expectations. I didn’t find anything special enough for me but I think other people might. My guests had a great time overall and so I’ve came to the conclusion that I just got unlucky.
TLDR: I guess a “what else did you expect” is the main theme I...
Read moreI visited Brasserie Chérie on April 5th with high expectations. Most people in my party were happy with their meals, which raised my expectations even further when I ordered the wagyu neck (485 NOK). Unfortunately, I was served one of the driest pieces of meat I’ve ever had—thick, stringy, and so dry it was hard to swallow without water. Several people at the table tasted it to double-check, and everyone agreed it was seriously overcooked and poorly prepared.
Unlike a friend who ordered a different dish and was asked how she preferred her meat, I wasn’t asked about doneness or preferences at all. When I gave feedback, I was told the chef would come out to explain—but no one ever came, and the chef never looked at the dish. I was later informed that the chef claimed the dish was “supposed to be like that,” despite the fact that it was clearly dry and mishandled. That response came across as dismissive and unprofessional.
I was offered a complimentary dessert as an apology, which I accepted—but it was still added to the bill and paid in full (159 NOK). The dessert was all right, and a very small portion. A friend also ordered a cappuccino out of courtesy so I wouldn’t eat alone, and both she and another guest said it was one of the worst coffees they’d ever tasted.
Everyone thought the service was quite poor.
On the positive side, the gratinated potatoes were very good, the hibiscus mocktail was lovely, and the other main courses at our table were generally well received. But overall, my experience was extremely disappointing—especially considering the price point and how poorly my complaint was handled.
Wagyu: 1/10 Financier (dessert): 3/10 Hibiscus mocktail: 8/10 Potatoes: 8/10 Service: 1,5/10 Atmosphere: 2/10 Overall experience: 2/10 - would not recommend. Waste of money.
Update, 8 April:
I notified the restaurant and they handled the situation very professionally. They acknowledged the issues, offered a sincere apology, and are going to refund the cost of the dish and dessert. I really appreciate the way they followed up – it shows integrity and genuine care for their guests. I hope to return another time for a...
Read moreWe stopped into Brasserie Chérie for early evening wine and small plates while exploring the Skostredet area. It’s tucked along a walkable side street lined with bars, vintage shops, and record stores. The vibe inside is moody and stylish—lots of dark wood, dim lighting, and velvet textures that feel more Paris than Bergen. You can tell they’re going for a grown-up wine bar feel, not a touristy brasserie knockoff.
We each had a glass of wine to start—one red, one white—and both were well-selected and properly poured. The wine list isn’t huge, but it’s focused. Prices were reasonable for Bergen, and it felt like someone actually curated the menu instead of filling it out with filler options. For food, we shared a few light dishes, including the burrata, tartare, and frites. Everything came out quickly and was plated cleanly. The portions are small, but it’s intentional—it’s more of a wine-and-snack stop than a full dinner experience.
Service was polite and attentive without being chatty. Our server gave solid recommendations and never rushed us, even as the room started to fill. The pacing worked well, and we never had to flag someone down.
Overall, Brasserie Chérie is a great option if you want a calm, adult setting for a proper glass of wine and a few well-made bites. It’s not flashy, and it’s not trying too hard. Just a good spot to reset, talk, and take a breather between sightseeing or...
