FJÅKING HEAVEN. If you love REAL chocolate, you absolutely must give this place a go. One of the best hidden gems in Bergen, located right next to the other one, Hallaisen.
I have thoroughly tested this place as it was simply addicting to come for a snack, and I have to admit that over the course of a week I have taste tested nearly every menu item. It has a big variety of hot chocolate flavours which you can choose from, and even a brunost drinking chocolate. (Brunost can be comparable to condensed milk flavor, however more rich with a note of cheesy sourness at the end) The flavor these chocolates provide is so unique - deep, fruity, creamy, melty, you may as well never drink any other chocolate. They have three types of chocolates; classic, sesonal and spanish. Mind you, you can choose three types of chocolate powders for each one. Iced drinks are on the menu too, just as amazing as the hot ones! They also have cocoa tea, which is very unique and surprisingly great!
To accompany the tea, they offer the most delectable desserts. The "Reindsyrslav cookie" (light) is a must try. Salty, yet sweet, deep chocolate flavored chunks, while the cookie is buttery, fudgy, caramelly. The chocolate cookie is great too, but not as special. It is almost like a chocolate fondant in cookie form. The brownie was to DIE for! Again with that unique brunost flavor shining through. Extremely well balanced.
For warmer days they also have ice cream. Three flavors: Brunost and strawberry, Stracciatella and milk chocolate, Dark chocolate sorbet. My favorite: Sorbet. I cannot believe it is vegan as well, it is so rich in flavor, extremely well balanced, surprisingly not very bitter. Stracciatella is also amazing, especially if you are feeling sweeter. For the sweetest tooth's out there, sincerely, go for the brunost ice cream.
Lastly, atmosphere. Very ambient, calm music, chill and stylish café vibe. The only thing is, it might get a bit busy, no wonder, it is...
Read moreDuring a free day in Bergen, we took the advice of a tour guide who raved about KAF’s hot chocolate—and it did not disappoint. This small, colorful café is staffed with knowledgeable, cheerful employees who are happy to guide you through their extensive hot chocolate options (who knew there were so many?).
I opted for the Spanish-style hot chocolate made with 70% dark chocolate and milk, while my mom chose a sweeter, classic hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and a marshmallow. We couldn’t resist adding a few truffles to our order, and the result was pure chocolate heaven.
My drink had a delightful bitterness, perfect for dark chocolate lovers, while my mom’s was sweet and bursting with nostalgic charm. Both were impeccably crafted and hit the spot.
KAF is more than just a café; it’s an experience. Its location near charming shops, restaurants, and some of Bergen’s main attractions makes it an ideal stop for a sweet treat during your exploration of the city. If you’re in Bergen, add this gem to your list—you...
Read moreI have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the cacao drinks joint Fjak chocolate shop & café in Bergen, Norway.
A must-visit spot in the old town of Bergen if you’re a chocolate lover. This café specializes in cacao and tea-based drinks and has an impressive range of chocolates with different intensities, which can be enjoyed as drinks or in various chocolate specialties prepared on site. They also offer a selection of products you can buy to take home.
The place is very popular, so seating is limited – there’s a tiny terrace at the entrance and just a few tables inside, quite close together. You’ll often need patience to find a spot, but it’s absolutely worth the wait.
Despite the constant flow of customers, the staff remain cheerful and friendly, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. For anyone visiting Bergen, this is almost an...
