We had a very nice evening at Le Mathis Bistro. The atmosphere was lovely, and the restaurant was cosy. There was a great selection of wine, and the menu was small but included everything you’d want when visiting a French Bistro.

The Beef tartare was amazing, it was really great to have the option to have it as a starter, myself and my partner thoroughly enjoy it. The Beef Bourguignon was also very tasty.

I unfortunately have one complaint. I ordered the Steak au poivre, the waiter did not ask how I wanted my meat to be cooked, I asked for my steak to be cooked rare. The reply I got was “Actually we serve the steak here medium-rare, as it’s how it should be served and it is the best way” I agreed and went with their recommendation and unfortunately my steak was over-cooked, dry and chewy. Strangely the table next to us also ordered the steak and they had double the amount of meat than our table.

For 540 NOK for the steak I was quite disappointed and feel the customer should have the option in how they want their...

Very cozy vibe in this stylish, characteristically French bistro, with super friendly and professional service and a very elegant aura overall. Sadly, the food is really bad. My wife took oysters who were certainly past their date and caused a lot of "havoc". The rest (beef tartar, cod and veggies) were all completely tasteless and bland Worst of all a glass of red wine that was supposed to be "rare" and had the same smell of an airport toilet.

Too bad. If you change the chef this place can be a real deal. Prices reasonable and - again - very...

We had 5 courses Christmas menu and it was incredible! I LOVE main course (which is Confit de canard) I would DIE for it! -1 star cus even I love bluecheese, Fourme d`Ambert is a bit too overwhelming. My two friends couldn’t finish this dish (but i did finish this dish)

Good vibes and service 🥰 we were kind of hungry and a friend of mine asked if the waiter can tell the kitchen to be a bit more faster (two first dishes took an hour). The waiter was kindly offer us bread 🥖, butter that came with it really has...

I only ordered the Moules Frites for lunch as I mistakenly let the hotel breakfast stuffed me. Anyway the mussel pot was fantastic, nicely presented and the mussels were juicy, soft and sweet. The compliments were relatively strong though comparing with typical mussel pot - there were tomatoes and Espelette pepper so it was a little bit spicy, I found that nice anyway. And very good wine I had.

Stumbled upon this elegant and cozy bistro on our first night in Bergen (from California), and made it a point to return for our last night. It was so refreshing to find a small island of fine dining without all the tourists. The food was delightful and refined, the staff knowledgeable and gracious, the wine list varied and interesting. Visit this bistro while you can still get a table!
