Broken promises After looking forward to a great end of the year and the start of the new year with a good dinner in an amazing atmosphere, we left with a very disappointed feeling. We booked the New Year's Eve dinner experience and chose our dishes upfront and were told to dine at bar vulkan. We would have the choice of two starters and choose our main dish upfront and could spent our evening from 20:00 until 00:30 including the opportunity to welcome the New Year with something nice in our glass.
Arriving at the restaurant at the agreed time, we first had to wait outside in the snow for 15 minutes. The seating process was slow, almost as if it was not thought out despite the need for reservations (which were not checked). When it was our turn for seating, we were moved to another restaurants seating area. This seating area was not the cosy atmosphere we were expecting and was #broken promise 1. The restaurants atmosphere obviously was affected by the numerous of disappointed guests.
When receiving the menu, it did not appear to be the new year's eve menu we were promised. It missed some main dishes, and the starters were different. After checking with our kind hostes, she checked with Helt Vilt and came back explaining that the starter would only be the sausage platter on the regular menu and the starters on the new year's eve menu were not available. #broken promise 2. We would receive the starter free of charge.
The serving of the food was also dissappinting. First of all the starter (sausage platter) and main dishes (kangaroo steak and grilled reindeer) were served almost at the same time, giving us a rushed feeling as if we had to leave as soon as possible. Secondly, the main dish arrived luke warm at best and many guests in our area had the food returned for this reason. The taste of the food was good, but this could not make up for our dissappinted and rushed feeling.
The dessert was the chocolate mouse and arrived just before we finished our mains. We received the three dishes within 1 hour, continuing our rushed experience.
#broken promise 3 came with the bill, which we picked up around 22:15 (obviously not receiving the opportunity of celebrating the new year with something nice in our glass). We had to split the drinks from the food as the drinks had to be paid at the restaurant we were seated and the food at Helt Vilt. When confronted with the bill, the starter was charged, and the dessert was not, resulting in a more expensive bill than it should have been.
All in all, I would not recommend Helt Vilt for their lack of planning this event, as it will not provide you with the experience you would expect. For a New Year's Eve, a once in a year event, guests expect the best of the restaurant and not its worst. This night reminds me that as a sales professional, maximising profits above customer experience is never a...
Read moreI attended the New Year’s Eve dinner at Helt Vilt, but unfortunately, the evening did not meet expectations. While the taste of the food was excellent, the execution from the kitchen left much to be desired.
Firstly, the starter was not as advertised. My girlfriend and I were served smoked salmon instead of the promised juniper-smoked trout. We understand some guests received trout, but it appears the kitchen ran out. For an event with such a specific menu, this substitution was disappointing and should have been communicated in advance.
Timing was a significant issue throughout the evening. The appetizers were served at 9:15 PM, almost 45 minutes after our arrival. Despite being informed that dessert would be served between 10:00 and 10:30 PM, our main courses were only served at 10:00 PM. Due to our plans to see fireworks, we requested that dessert be brought alongside the mains, which the waitress arranged.
The staff tried their best to manage the situation and were attentive and accommodating. However, the kitchen’s poor performance and lack of planning overshadowed their efforts. The 3-course menu (excluding drinks) cost 1,728 NOK for two, which feels steep given the chaotic service and delays.
While the flavors of the food were delightful, the experience was marred by subpar kitchen coordination. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback to improve...
Read moreTheir wild burgers are simply great and insanely delicious at the same time! During my visit, I felt that I had arrived where I should be. The reception was beyond imagination. The lady waitress, nice but approached with small steps, did not want to rush down immediately, thereby leaving my precious time to find the most suitable place for me in the guest area. As soon as I took a seat, I received the menu, which almost immediately raised good hopes for the popularity of the place. After the sufficiently warm welcome, I immediately chose from the menu and the drink list. I ordered an Elg burger with Parmesan fries. I chose a good glass of full-bodied Ripass (wine) to drink. While I was waiting for my order, I had time to monitor the work of the chefs working hard in the kitchen! after a while, I received my carefully prepared burger, which made my taste buds go wild. It was majestic. I will choose them again next time I visit Oslo....
