Dining at Hereford Steakhouse promised an evening of culinary delight, and in many aspects, it did not disappoint. The food was undeniably delicious, with the steaks standing out as the highlight of the evening. However, a good meal should be complemented with equally commendable service, and unfortunately, that was not the case during our visit.
The Good: We started our meal with scallops and French onion soup. The scallops were well-prepared and enjoyable. The comprehensive selection of steaks provided an exciting palette of flavors, and the execution on these steaks was impeccable, deserving of praise.
The Not-So-Good: The service we experienced during our visit left a lot to be desired. With just two servers attending to the entire restaurant, it seemed quite clear that they were understaffed. This not only impacted the speed of the service but its quality as well.
Our server, although seemingly well-intentioned, seemed inexperienced. The language barrier was evident – he didn't speak Norwegian and struggled with English. This led to significant misunderstandings. Two of our party had ordered lobster to accompany their steak, yet only one was initially served. The omission of the second lobster seemed like a clear oversight.
Moreover, one member of our group is allergic to mushrooms and had explicitly requested their dish to be prepared without them. Sadly, they were served vegetables mixed with mushrooms, which could have had serious consequences.
Lastly, a point on customization. In many steakhouses globally, serving vegetables and sides "family style" is customary, especially given the price point. Our server seemed unfamiliar with this concept, which was disappointing.
A minor note on the French onion soup – it could have done with a more generous helping of cheese.
To Conclude: For a bill that totaled 5500 NOK for five guests, one would expect both food and service to be top-notch. While the food – especially the steaks – were delightful and justified the cost, the service, unfortunately, marred our overall experience.

Read moreWe visited Hereford Steakhouse and enjoyed a full three-course meal — and it truly lived up to expectations.
Starter: We began with a light and flavorful starter: tender grilled beef served on a bed of arugula, red onions, and cherry tomatoes, topped with a mild vinaigrette. The meat was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, setting a great tone for the rest of the meal.
Main Course: The main course was the highlight — juicy Wagyu steak served with grilled vegetables like asparagus, mushrooms, and carrots, along with a delicious cheesy potato gratin. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender with just the right marbling, and bursting with rich flavor. One of the other plates featured a generous mix of grilled meats, showcasing the restaurant’s range on the grill.
Dessert: We ended the meal with a classic crème brûlée, featuring a crisp caramelized top and a rich, creamy vanilla custard. It was served with ice cream and fresh berries, making it a sweet and satisfying finish. The cappuccino and fresh drinks rounded things off nicely.
Service & Atmosphere: The staff were friendly and attentive throughout the meal, making us feel welcome and well taken care of. The interior is slightly worn, but the great service and excellent food more than made up for it.
Conclusion: Hereford Steakhouse delivers where it matters most — perfectly grilled meats and delicious dishes. A great spot for a cozy dinner with a warm atmosphere. Would...
Read morewe were 4 people who had booked a table 1/7.23 we got the table quickly, despite the restaurant being full. We were met by an inexperienced waiter who did not welcome us or seem pleasant. After he took the drink order, he came back in twice to check what we had actually ordered. we all went for a 3 course menu, 3 medium roast, 1 raw steak. the 3 medium was ok. while the one that was supposed to be raw was well done. It was sent back when we finally got attention from the waiter (after about 10 minutes), and it was replaced. and came back in after 10 minutes, by which time the rest of the party had finished and had already eaten. We had to ask for the dessert ourselves as they had neither asked if we wanted more drinks or dessert 1 hour after they cleared the main course. the scallops for the starter were good, but would have liked some form of crunch for that dish, as it could seem a bit too "soft". The creme brulee for dessert was grainy in texture and had an artificial taste. Had to ask for coffee for dessert, and when the coffee arrived 15 minutes later, the dessert was consumed and the coffee cold. Unfortunately, a lot falls on an...
