I read about this new super cool place opening in Grünerløkka last weekend and I had to try it.
Just gonna start by saying that the overall experience was fantastic, as we enjoyed a beautiful evening in an intimate, cozy, yet friendly and exciting environment. So please, take all that follows in this post considering what I’ve just written. Shout out to Jimmy, who basically became my new best friend ;) The food was really tasty. High quality of the ingredients, good technique when it comes to frying, or cooking pasta, and really strong yet balanced flavours.
We had calamari, sourdough bread, gruyere, a tarte flambè and the famous salmon caviar pasta. If you can, get both the tarte flambé and the pasta, cause I can’t tell which one I liked better ahah however, I’m not sure I could fully appreciate the salmon caviar addition, given that the umami flavour was already conveyed by the bottarga, but this is a shortcoming of mine.
The price. As I said, quality of the ingredients, technique and passion to create the dishes justify the high price, but be mindful of that when you visit the restaurant.
Lastly, the service. I was really happy of the overall experience and atmosphere, and Jimmy is a fantastic restaurant owner. Yet, the waiter that served us (not Jimmy) didn’t give us the best service. He wasn’t rude or did anything wrong, just that when he asked us if everything was okay he didn’t really seem interested in our answer, almost as he was eager to leave because service was close to ending.
Ok this was a very long review but I think I said it all ahah Anybody who reads this, give Jimmy’s a try. I’m sure you will have a wonderful...
Read moreLast Sunday, I booked a table at Jimmy’s with friends visiting from abroad. I had seen great reviews and thought to try out this new place with an exciting menu and one of few restaurants open on a Sunday in July. My friends arrived first, and the music was very loud. When the server came to take the order, my friend could not hear her due to the sound level. My friend asked twice for the music to be turned down before it was at a level where they could converse. When I arrived, heavy metal was playing. I spoke to the owner and requested that the music be changed but was met with a resounding “no” and promptly reminded that I was in ‘his’ restaurant. I understand this is a new place and the choice of music is perhaps part of the concept. But Rage Against the Machine, Killing in the Name is just too intense for a Sunday dinner. Even if it's a matter of taste, there are many ways to respond to a polite request from a paying guest, and his has put me completely off returning. I give 2 stars as the dishes my friends had were very good, and the staff otherwise is friendly. My dish, the entrecote, only arrived once my friends were done with theirs and was too...
Read moreThis is my absolute favourite place to be. Makes me feel home all the time. Jimmy does not complicate what can be simplified and that makes it great. Wine selection is straight forward , so is the food. We arrived on a busy evening and our table was ready on time and looked after throughout the evening. I was welcomed by a lovely ( blonde ) girl and Joaquim , as usual, the friendliest. Everyone at work smiled and eye-greeted. The chefs look happy at work too, and that’s the best start overall! 😍 We were served by Junia, which is always amazing and hell-knowledge of a waiter. He sat with us, and got envolved with the table - I love this ! We have one vegan and one vegetarian with us, and they fixed the plates accordingly. I recommend seating at the pizza section or in front of you want a better vibe. Cocktail selection is quite simple but great if that’s what you look for, you got an aperitivo and digestive, easy to go, no margin for complaints. In a nutshell, the best...
