One of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve had in a long time.
Food: All dishes were unbalanced and portions were small. Chanterelle crème was good but needed something crispy like a cracker, toasted bread or crumbs. Menu description mentioned «rye», not sure where this was? Main dish was duck, which was far too salty. Dessert was sour with very little sweetness to relieve it, sorbet was icy, mousses grainy (and one tasted like old milk).
Service: Staff seemed distracted and in a rush even though the place wasn’t busy. We had to go ask for the set menus and again to pay at the bar. They put a box of cutlery at the table and didn’t explain any of the dishes; it was clear they did not know them as they had to check what was on the menu. No one checked in on us during the meal; we had to go to the bar when we wanted to order more.
Atmosphere: Why on Earth seat guests in the darkest corner of the restaurant with a broken lamp when 2/3 of the place is empty?
We booked a table upstairs because the website explicitly says the set menus can be served both places. We also asked the staff if it was better for us to go down to the restaurant , but they assured us that the food could be served upstairs too. In hindsight I think the service and ambience would have been better downstairs, though not sure about the food.
All in all we paid about 2500 for 3 people. For the price you can get better...
Read moreI booked this restaurant for a recent visit to Oslo after seeing its great Google ratings.
The setting was beautiful—even though we dined in the evening and didn’t see the park in daylight, it still felt really special. Inside, the ambiance was perfect: elegant decor, warm lighting, and well-chosen background music created a wonderful atmosphere.
The service was impeccable. Every staff member we encountered was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive, making the experience feel truly special. I couldn’t fault them at all.
The only downside was the menu. As a vegetarian, I’m used to having just one option at high-end restaurants, and I’m happy to trust the chef’s creativity. However, in this case, the only vegetarian choice—for both the starter and main—was cauliflower. While I appreciate that it’s seasonal and versatile, it would have been nice to see a bit more variety. Both dishes were well-prepared and enjoyable, but I ultimately ordered them because there was no alternative.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I’d highly recommend this restaurant—though I hope they consider adding more diversity to their vegetarian offerings...

Winter Christmas Experience Nedre Foss Gård is housed in the historic residence of Fredrik Grüner from the 1670s, the namesake of Oslo’s Grünerløkka neighborhood. The cozy atmosphere during winter truly captures the essence of a Christmas table experience. The food is good, though I wouldn’t go there solely for the culinary offerings. It’s more about the ambiance that takes you back in time, making it feel like a true festive celebration.
Summer Garden Vibes In contrast, the garden at Nedre Foss Gård offers a different kind of magic during the endless summer days of Oslo. A beautiful garden setting, perfect for enjoying drinks and snacks under the sun. For the best experience, visit on a sunny day to soak up the atmosphere—it’s truly one of those places where the charm comes alive with...
