The Royal Tandoori is not just my absolute favorite Indian restaurant in Oslo, it’s my favorite restaurant. Period. The food is fantastic, their chef(s) is one of the absolute best with a long track record in one of Oslos oldest most well respected Indian restaurants before coming to the RT. And just the fact that they use lactose free milk products as a general standard in all their dishes (as far as I know, ask to be 100% sure) makes it a unique Indian restaurant and a blessing for those of us with a lactose intolerance. In addition to the world-class food, the couple who owns and runs the restaurant are the nicest most hospitable and courteous people you’ll ever meet, they make you feel like you’re part of the family and that the restaurant is your home away from home. I can’t recommend it enough. (My favorite is the Garlic Chicken Karahi, medium plus, but the chicken spinach and butter chicken are also amazing. And don’t forget - they also have a whole Nepali menu if you fancy trying something a little different!! It’s...
Read moreWent there for a 3 course meal, pre-paid. The starter and main dish were OK. We bought a naan, after the waitress said there was no rice with the main dishes(we asked her twice to clarify, as there was rice on the picture). When the main dish arrived it came with rice. For dessert I ordered Sweet Dreams – "Ice cream, fresh fruits and whipped cream"; It came without fruits. When asked about it they simply said "we don't have them".
The waitress seemed to purposefully avoid us, not looking out across the room. Our water mug was not refilled. They insisted on English it seemed, but they didn't speak it well enough to be understood (apart from the one waitress who avoided us). As it was pre-paid there was no discount to be had, and we even had to pay for the naan.
They get one extra star here, because it was at least bad to the point that it became...
Read moreGreat food and service - ordered malai kofta and paneer Karachi (pictured). The malai kofta tasted very coconut-y, and I think perhaps even the kofta balls were made of coconut instead of the usual paneer / nut mix that I’m used to seeing in the US. It was delicious! The paneer Karachi was very similar to paneer Kadai I’ve had in the US, possibly a bit spicier! Pleasantly unexpected. The staff were very friendly and helpful and patient with us, while although there was a slight language barrier we had no problems ordering in English! I love that it came with pickled veggies, mango, and what I think is tamarind sauce on the side. The garlic naan was hands down the best garlic naan I’ve ever had - super moist and bursting with flavor, while not too...
