Italian Barrista Cafe ايطاليا باريستا كافيه — Restaurant in Muscat

I’ve tried their pasta which honestly I didn’t care for. Pasta in Oman generally doesn’t taste like what I’m used to. Also tried the burger which was surprisingly good for a coffee place. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t expecting much. Coffee itself was decent but nothing to write home about. During iftar they had some specials that has appetizer and deserts included. Probably their pizza is the best option on the menu but only in sizes M and L. I supposed one Can’t really mess that up usually. Mozerella sticks were good but make sure to ask for the sauce on side if you don’t like spicy. No smoothies even though on the menu. Milkshake was decent but in line with most places which means not like they have back in USA. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to make a good milkshake. Strawberry mojito looked like tomato juice in color but tasted like strawberries. A bit tart too. During curfew days they seated us and then after putting the food on the table told my kid who was sitting there with us the whole time when we ordered that she couldn’t eat any of it because kids aren’t allowed in restaurants. They said she could wait outside the restaurant while me and my wife ate however … I guess that’s ok by local standards but Not for me. I can’t fathom eating while my daughter just stands outside and watches me. It’s so not right. But they didn’t seem to understand why I asked them to box everything up then, saying “no no it’s ok you can eat just not her”. Ketchup bottles need to be wiped down after use. I picked one up and it has sauce on it. Ick. Steak burger was meaty but really really dry. Order a regular steak as those taste ok. Fries were cold on my last visit but they reheated them for me (thanks I think?). They’ve since revoked their past 10% al mouj resident discount if you can show your al mouj card...

Even though the food was not bad, the service couldn’t have been worse. First, they took forever for the drinks, they came with normal coke even though we ordered zero which they didn’t have. The starter took a while as well. They first ignored or forgot all our requests for salt, pepper and extra Parmesan. We noticed they are anything but organized, they were not motivated to serve us at all - that was pretty obvious. Worst was that one main dish came 10mins before the other one. All basic services principals failed. Perfect example of how NOT to do it. We don’t blame the waiters, as this is management‘s responsibility to train them and encourage at least friendliness if not professionalism at work. Sad really - the rating do...
