BEST AUTHENTIC THAI RESTAURANT IN MUSCAT Soi Soi Thai Restaurant, Kempinski Hotel
Soi Soi is a new restaurant located within the Wave complex, part of the Kempinski hotel. It is located on street 6, close to the beach with easy access when you enter the wave with Valet parking.
From the outside Soi Soi has a simple but elegant front that conforms to the rest of the street in its appearance with the Kempinski Hotel.
Menu The menu is pure Thai with a very large selection of dishes that provide variety for most tastes including noodles, rices, soups and salads. This includes vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes from simple veggies to chicken.
The menu was so diverse that it took us, Thai veterans some time to make our minds up as they had all of our favourite Thai food. In the end a very comprehensive menu and well done for including some of the national dishes like Pad Thai, Tom Yum, Mango Sticky Rice. We would like to see Khoi Soi (Chiang Mai) on the menu but it is a very difficult dish to make so no pressure.
Prices They are pretty expensive but what do you expected for authentic, I mean really “authentic” traditional Thai Food, and not forgetting your dining at the Kempinski Hotel, so don't complain about the price if your writing a review.
Food The Food was unbelievably yummy, this is the first time since being in Muscat that we have eaten genuine Thai food that wasn't modified for the local market. The Tom Yum came first, which we instantly knew from the texture and smell that it was going to be good, and it was, all 4 of us tucked in and it was full of Thai flavour and hit the right spot. The second dish to come was the Coconut curry, again it was simply delicious with the rice. The third dish was my Pad Thai which was typical Bangkok style, a little too sweet for me but authentic. The fourth dish was the Papaya Salad and as soon as I got a smell of the aroma, I knew it was authentic, we all tucked into it and loved it, super spicy and a typcial papaya salad that you would find in the streets in Thailand. The final dish, was a mixed seafood rice and again the texture was amazing with great flavour.
Overall the ingredients were super fresh, especially the prawns and left us wanting more and more, our mouths were watering from the first moment eating the Tom Yum to finishing the Mango Sticky Rice. The winner of the evening was the Tom Yum, we all voted it was the dish of the night and deserves it glory.
We were however cut on the Mango Sticky rice as it is one of my fav Thai dessert dishes, simple but hard to get right as the rice is twice cooked with coconut milk. I was 50/50 but the rest loved it so left it there.
Remember, use your chopsticks.
Drinks The drinks menu is massive, i mean it took me a few minutes to try and find the beer section, then i asked the waiter, and it took him a minute to find it. It is so extensive that you can really order anything, from a beer to a cocktail, smoothy, or shorts.
Prices are reasonable and average for the area.
Customer Service Staff were extremely friendly and courteous as expected by thai people something that has common ground anywhere in the world. They helped us with our table, choosing the right menu items and drinks with the right amount of customer service dealing with all of our queries. They also helped our friends choose some dishes as they had never been to Thailand before so were really helpful.
Recommendations Fully recommended and so far the only authentic Thai restaurant in Muscat. The staff win you over and give you a great dining experience along with authentic Thai food, hospitality and a Chang or Singa to help complete the Thai experience. We will be back and recommending.
Well done to the Soi Soi staff and management team, keep up the great work. #LetsGuide #fsya...
Read moreSoi Soi Thai Restaurant in Muscat offers an exceptional dining experience, particularly with its excellent service. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and to help us understand the nuances of Thai cuisine. They were attentive, asking insightful questions about allergies and offering a variety of dish recommendations. It was clear they wanted us to have the best experience possible.
The food we had was mostly enjoyable. The Tom Yum Goong was vibrant and flavorful, a definite highlight, and the Prawn Tempura was crisp and tasty. The Green Curry also had authentic flavors, a true representation of Thai cooking. The Chicken Dumpling and Fish Cake were decent, though not as memorable, and the Chicken Satay unfortunately lacked flavor. We found the Red Massaman Curry to be underwhelming, not living up to our expectations.
A notable downside was the price for six pieces of tofu—4.500 OMR—which felt like a bit of a rip-off considering the portion size. Despite this, with limited places offering good Thai food in Muscat, Soi Soi is a solid option, though not the best.
The restaurant also boasts a great environment, with outdoor seating that adds to the overall experience.
