It is my first time in Panama and decided to try this restaurant that was near my hotel. The music was great, atmosphere was nice, however my waiter, Elizabeth Casaya Flores, was NOT very pleasing. I don’t know if she was having a bad day, but she left a very unpleasant taste in my mouth. It is already difficult as is because of the language barrier, but to deal with bad customer service on top of that is just as annoying. I ordered my drink, an appetizer and main course all at once. It did seem a bit busy so I figured to be as considerate as possible. Within two minutes of serving me my appetizer, another lady brought me my main course. I told her in Spanish “not right now”because I haven’t even tasted my appetizer. My Elizabeth (light brown, medium length hair), with attitude took it in the back. After I finished my appetizer, 45 minutes later (I’m a slow eater), I then signaled her to bring me my main course. When she brought it, it was the exact same plate that was brought out 45 minutes earlier. They must of had it sitting on something warm because the plate was warm but the food was extremely cold. Agitated, I called her over and just asked for the check. When she asked what happened I told her the food was cold and I just wanted the check. I’m a BIG tipper because I work in the tipping industry also, so I know how it is. I have to give my tips in cash because I don’t feel satisfied giving my server 20% which is only $5 most of the times. This time I just paid the bill and left. I’m not about to argue with anyone about anything while I’m in their country. Maybe Elizabeth was having a bad night, I don’t know, however that doesn’t make it right to give poor customer service. Especially if most of your income depends on tips. I was still charged for the COLD salmon that I did not eat, however like mention, I did not wanted to create any issues.
I went across the street to El Jardin de Gaudi. The atmosphere is excellent and there was a live pianist playing. I would recommend them 20000%. The bartender couldn’t speak a spec of English, but he did his very best to assist me and for that alone speaks volume. Customer service was amazing...
Read moreOur nearby hotel staff highly recommended Oldies. Super Bowl Sunday evening, my companion and I had dinner there while watching the 1st half of the game and halftime show. The service was outstanding...friendly, attentive and fast. The ambience was excellent, we sat in the outside area which allows a nice street vibe. Prices very reasonable. My grilled salmon was done to perfection and the side of fries were perhaps the best I've ever had. My companion's bucket of wings was disappointing, however. Big wings, cooked well, but lacking flavor. The only kick came from a bbq dipping sauce which was out of a bottle and lame. With the french fries so great, the restaurant new in 2022, I'm hopeful they will figure out how to up their 'wings' game. Overall, this is still a restaurant I want...
Read moreWe happened to be staying in a hotel in the same block as Oldies during our 2d 10 day visit to Panama City. With the easing of pandemic restrictions this time we were able to explore nearby eating spots. We were very impressed with the indoor decor and the attentiveness of the staff on a Monday night. The menu was very eclectic and varied. My wife enjoyed a salmon dish with lime and other flavorings. I enjoyed a Cuban style oxtail entree. We also enjoyed yucca which was very well prepared, light and crispy. And my strawberry drink was a nice smoothie like concoction. Very happy that we...
