Stop the presses! We found the best coffee in Arequipa! Do enjoy their speciality coffee as an espresso or as a coffee drink, like a cappuccino or an expertly made flat white and, even better, pair it with some of their food, be it sweet of savory, that is also delicious and offers both classics (from grill cheese sandwich to eggs Benedict's) and more original dishes. If you go for a meal or if evening approaches, don't miss their unique and delicious coffee based drinks, like a coffee gin tonic or a coffee Negroni. The outdoor seating area is a wonderful place where to enjoy your break (or meal) and some table even have plush armchairs. The cafe is located in an inner courtyard of an old building constructed with the classic Arequipa white stones, which makes it for a lovely atmosphere and the interior, whilst small, is very cozy and nicely decorated with a huge bear ("oso" in Spanish: the name of the cafe) mural. The only confusing thing is that the working hours of the cafe and the kitchen are different, so depending on the time of the day you might or might no be able to get a hot dish. Highly...
Read moreVisited yesterday at 4pm for cake & tea. We ordered the hot apple crumble with ice cream from the dessert menu, enticed by the pictures from previous reviews. That did not disappoint: hot, moist & light. Nice big chunks of apple, tasty crumble. As for tea, sadly they didn't have herbal teas on the menu (like mate de muña, manzanilla or similar, which are so typical in Peru) so I ordered a chai with coconut milk. While nicely presented, it was made from a chai syrup and was luke warm. When I pointed that out, they quickly reheated the same drink and served it scalding & with no presentation - they simply steamed it and poured it back into the cup. Nice setting and nice staff but with the chai they should've done better. Get some herbal teas...
Read moreDefinite tourist trap. We came at a time when there were only 3 other tables that came after us, and ordered the chicken quesadilla and eggs benedict. The delay to make these two items was over 30 min during a not busy time, and the quesadilla looked like a six year old could make it, it had very little chicken and lacked substance to fill one up. The eggs benedict did not have a benedict sauce, literally just an egg on top of a piece of ham on a hamburger bun. The service though was infuriating having 3 people talking behind the counter and not attending us once during our 30 min wait, WE had to call one of them over and complain about our flight leaving for them to attend us. Overpriced mediocre food, DO...
