We didn’t stay at this hotel, but we came twice for breakfast and once for dinner, and it was some of the best food we had in Cusco.
The breakfast was incredible. We paid about USD 35 for two people. This included a buffet breakfast of artisanal breads, high quality meats and cheeses, the freshest fruit, and cold pressed juice. In addition to that, there was a menu of made-to-order items included in the price. The breakfast burrito, smoked trout sandwich, and huevos rancheros were some of our favorites. You could also order a side of oatmeal. Their oatmeal is some of the best I’ve ever had. It is so creamy and tasty, and a drop of the butterscotch sauce made it 10x better. For not staying at the hotel, the service was still incredible and extremely attentive.
For the dinner, we started with the trout nigiri. Trout tartare and caviar on top of a fried rice cake, topped with avocado, and with notes of sesame oil and soy sauce. It was absolutely delicious. For the main, I ordered the alpaca steak with sweet potato gnocchi and red wine sauce, and it was another win. I ordered it medium rare but received it more on the medium end, but it was still juicy and flavorful. The gnocchi was also extremely tasty.
The environment of the restaurant itself is extremely cozy and boasts some of the best art work I’ve seen in Cusco. If you’re in Cusco, give this place a try. You...
Read moreI stayed at Antigua Casona San Blas for several nights and cannot say enough good things about their in house restaurant, Piedra & Sal. The staff are so nice (and funny!) and attentive. The atmosphere/ambiance and interior is sophisticated (but homey) and stylish. The food is sooooooooooo good (and veggie friendly!). Not to mention the comfy and cozy fire pit sitting area in the courtyard, which is great for sipping on Pisco Sours and listening to the live band they have playing at the hotel many nights. We split our stay at the hotel with the Salkantay Trek and me and my travel partner literally kept dreaming about and talking about how we couldn't wait to get back for the breakfast and dinner! The breakfast is free for hotel guests and is HUGE. Not only do you get an assortment of yogurts and cereal and breads and jams and cheese (by the way, my travel partner is French and RAVED about the croissants...and he is a TOUGH French food critic), but you can order for free off the hot food menu as well (and the breakfast burrito is insanely tasty). The dinner menu offers all the types of flavors and dishes, including this sizable bowl of delicious pumpkin/squash soup that served as my main dish a couple times. Absolutely worth checking out this place...
Read moreTwo friends and I went to this restaurant on our last night in Cusco. We loved every entree we had and both appetizers. We also got great service.
We always crave Cesar salad when we're away from home and are usually disappointed but this salad was excellent!
The salmon trout was tender and perfectly cooked with a little crisp on the outside and a ton of mushrooms which were all delicious!
The ossobucco was so tender and flavorful, the meat was incredible and the sauces made the whole dish even better!
Our third entree was the alpaca - served on the bone and medium rare as requested was perfectly cooked, and tasty! The gnocchi that came with it was crispy, chewy, and delicious! The perfect side to the meat.
We topped it off with some delicious milky hot chocolate and a passion fruit creme brulee.
Last but not least, Jon Nicholas was an excellent server!! He was attentive, responsive, respectful, patient, and checked in on us with every course to make sure we were happy. A very smooth dinner!!
We have been to many restaurants in Cusco and for some reason have found ourselves chilly, or eating near open windows and doors....we loved the gorgeous fireplace and ambience...
