Visited this place a few years back before the pandemic, and it definitely hasn't changed much. Seems to have become a lot more popular though after his spot on Netflix 'Street Food: Latin America.' This time, I arrived at 1215pm, and there were about a dozen people waiting, they say they opened at 12pm, it was a Wednesday. Waited 30 minutes. They took our orders while we were in line, so the wait wasn't too long once we were seated. The restaurant has only about 10 spots inside, but you can always opt for takeout if you prefer. As someone who tries to seek out some of the best huariques (unpretentious / hidden) restaurants in Lima, I can say that this place is incredibly cheap! and not in a bad way. The price has increased by 5 soles, and it no longer includes a chicha (drink), but for S./ 25, their signature plate 'Combinado' (which some call Trio) is an unbelievable deal and pretty decent. It includes three items: Ceviche from Caballa (Mackerel), which is alright, decent size cuts, if you slice them too small they end up cooking too fast in the lime juice, in my opinion. Here they actually make a mixed ceviche with shrimp and some other things, definitely my favourite of the three and stands up with any place around the S./ 30-50 price range. The second item is 'Chicharrón' from Pota, which is essentially a larger squid but not calamari (more expensive). Living here, pota has grown on me, it definitely has a stronger taste and usually firmer. My only beef is how it’s cut here, way too thin in my opinion, you basically only taste the batter on some. Pota is delicious! The Surquillo 2 Market just two blocks North, hands down has some of the best (and cheap) if you’re still hungry. The fried rice is unfortunately my least favorite; there are much smokier / tastier versions available elsewhere. However, it still complements the other dishes and it’s alright but you can definitely find better options around. Overall, as I mentioned, you won't find a better deal with such fresh products and you get the opportunity to try a little of the favorites in most seafood restaurants. You won't leave hungry! I'll definitely be back to try some of their individual plates. Remember, science says you can heal from a breakup...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Al Toke Pez, and I must say that the experience was absolutely amazing. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a cozy atmosphere. The restaurant's decor was stylish and modern, with beautiful lighting that set the perfect mood for a memorable evening.
Now let's talk about the food! The menu offered a wide variety of dishes, and every single one that we tried was bursting with flavor. The seafood dishes were particularly outstanding, and it was clear that only the freshest ingredients were used. I especially loved the ceviche, which was perfectly balanced and had just the right amount of kick.
The service at Al Toke Pez was exceptional, with the waitstaff being attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. They offered great recommendations and made us feel at home throughout the entire meal. The cocktails were also a highlight, with a creative list of signature drinks that were expertly crafted.
Overall, I highly recommend Al Toke Pez to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. The food, service, and atmosphere were all top-notch, and I can't wait to go back and try more of their...
Read moreThis place probably doesn’t need another 5-star review, but here it is anyway. We really enjoyed the food, grabbing a combinado for just 30 soles. I was worried it wouldn’t be enough, but the portion was more than generous. Everything was fresh and delicious—absolutely nothing to complain about. It might sit a little heavy in your stomach, but that could've been more about me not feeling 100% fit that day.
As many have mentioned before, be prepared to wait in line. When we arrived, there were about 10-15 people ahead of us, which meant roughly an hour and 20 minutes of waiting on the street. Even though the lady will take your order in advance, don’t be fooled—it’s like a waiter bringing out the silverware at a restaurant. Maybe it’s just my rushed European side, but watching people eat while you're waiting in line felt like watching sloths enjoy a leisurely dinner. They took their sweet time, savoring every bite like they had all the time in the world, while we stood there, stomachs growling, wishing we could speed things up.
Anyway, overall a great experience, delicious food, and don’t forget to try the...
