Regarding the food, which I would describe as Peruvian and French fusion with some Asian touches. on the first two times were impressive. Being summer I gravitated towards fish and seafood, as duck which also has a starring role on the menu, does not appeal to me when the outdoor temperatures hover at 32º. The grilled calamari appetizer had a savory demi-glace which I guess was probably made with the squid's own ink, and made for a perfect complement. The arroz de mar was a riff of the traditional aguadito, to which was added bacon slices (that would be the French influence) but a sin to me, as I find mixing bacon and fresh fish, absolutement degoutante. The desserts is an area that could use the same creativity that went to create the main menu. The few offeriengs can all be classified as ubiquitous run of the mill, such as brownie with ice cream, tiramisu, and cheesecake. Neither Peruvian nor French and an absolute no. Add to the above a house cocktail Frescura del mar and the bill including tip was a whopping $28.00 USD. Seemed a little high for lunch in Peru, when compared with nearby restaurants. Though I did not mind the price, I do object to the cheap paper used on the one page menu, the filthy overhead translucent ceiling, and the ill lit bathroom. On my third visit I had a nauseous reaction to the fish with curry "atigrado'. I did try to find out what was used to make it, aside from the coconut milk, but was told the recipe was a secret. So will never know what caused me to feel nauseous and stop eating. I believe it was my own personal physical make up that found something in the dish disagreable, but would have liked to know what the ingredients they used were, so I could have made my...
Read morePerhaps the best food we had in Peru .. and that included many of the highest rated places in Lima. My wife who is vegetarian had the Mushroom Truffle Risotto and it was hands down the best meal she had in Peru and also the best Risotto ever. I had the Pesca Del Dia Con Curry Atigrado which was out of this world. The curry flavor was subtle but just right. The fish was very fresh and combined perfectly with the curry, corn and rice base. Unfortunately I won’t be able to have it elsewhere as it’s a house special. We also had the Ceviche De Pato which is Northern Peru special and was also fantastic. The duck is slow cooked to soften it and then marinated like all Ceviches … Amazing. The drinks are also great .. we tried the Maracuya Soda, Culpina and Lemongrass Lemonade. All were A+. And another great highlight was meeting Awicha’s star chef Jason Roman who happened to be at Awicha’s new location in San Isidro on Christmas Day when we were there. Highly, highly...
Read moreI visited Avicha in San Isidro, which I is the sister restaurant to the original one in Barranco. The setting is stylish, and the location is actually quite cool — with good music and an overall nice vibe.
We came on a Monday and were the only guests at lunch, which felt a bit awkward. Maybe it was the weather, maybe just the day — but despite that, the ambience was still pleasant, and the team seemed cheerful and welcoming.
As for the food: We had tiraditos and ceviche, which were decent, though I felt the quality of the fish could have been better. The standout was definitely the meat dish, which was perfectly cooked. The pulpo was also very good.
All in all, a good spot with potential. They seem to have a solid wine list, and I really hope more people in San Isidro discover Avicha. I’d be happy to...
