I had a really disappointing experience at Raíz Coffee. I stopped by thinking it would be a nice treat, but I walked out feeling ripped off and upset.
I ordered an iced chai tea latte with oat milk for S/20. For that price, I could have had a full meal at any other place, which I believe would be cheaper. When I took my first sip (and only sip), I was shocked. It tasted like watered-down ginger—no chai flavor at all. It was so bad that I felt upset immediately.
When my taxi arrived, I asked the barista to transfer the drink into a plastic cup so I can take it to my mom or someone else who would be willing to drink that thing. When the barista transferred the drink I could swear the liquid in the cup was not even 1/4 of the cup. I made an astonished face and asked them to add more ice because it was embarrassing to leave with an almost-empty cup. Even with extra ice, the drink barely filled halfway.
This place is completely overpriced, the drink was awful, and the portion was insulting. It ruined my day. I will never return, and I wouldn’t recommend...
Read moreWe had a pretty disappointing experience at this coffee shop. While the coffee and cinnamon roll were actually quite good, the service completely ruined it. The man who served us—possibly the owner—was pushy and rude, aggressively asking if we were going to tip, and making us feel really uncomfortable when we didn’t. It felt like a scam. Why would anyone tip for two coffees and a small pastry? We’re happy to tip at sit-down restaurants, but this was not that. Peru doesn’t have the same tipping culture as the U.S., and tipping for quick service like this is not expected. Tourists, be careful—don’t feel pressured to tip where it’s...
Read moreThis is a great little coffee bar. They are meticulous about their coffee, sourced from various locations in Peru and slow roasted to highlight the flavors of the origin and varieties (light to medium). Both espresso and V60 was top notch, so were their small selection of sides. The personnel where very friendly and had a few options to try from other roasters and nations, as well. Also, I have to mention the toilet, which was the most fresh and clean I've been to in Peru. This is very appreciated, as that is uncommon in this country... I'll be back for...
