On our last day in Peru, my Wife and I went to Ukaw and tried a variety of Chocolate Goodies. One was a Cacao Juice mixed with Gooseberry and Camu Camu fruit; a type of Citrus forward Berry that grows in the Amazon Rainforest. It was unlike anything I've ever had. It had a Chocolate Fruit flavor to it, but also the tartness from the Camu Camu and Gooseberry complimented the Cacao well. It almost implied carbonation the way it tickles the tongue. Gives you an instant jolt of energy too. My wife had a Hot Chocolate which was Pure Cacao Paste blended with Hot Water and with a Chocolate Sauce on the rim. It had a rich and velvety texture that was different from standard Hot Chocolate that's made with Powder. The flavor was Fruity with some dark berry notes in the aftertaste. I heard if the beans are not roasted to oblivion, you should still taste some of the actual fruit in the Bean from higher end chocolate. This definitely had that. We also got a Sampler Box of Chocolates which had fruit jams or fruit pastes inside. The Yellow Cacao Pod was Banana. Natural and sweet, you can tell some sort of grainy compote was made with real bananas. The brown Cacao Pod had Camu Camu paste inside. This one was an explosion of sweet and tart, citric flavor that gave the Chocolate some depth, especially in the aftertaste. We also got two Bon Bons that were Triangle and Heart shaped and pink. One of those had Gooseberry inside, it was tart, but a good balance to some of the bitterness from the Chocolate Shell. The other had Passion fruit, that one was probably our favorite. The Passion Fruit Jam had a perfect balance of sweet and sour and really complimented the chocolate exterior well. We also picked up some Pure Chocolate Bars to try out when we get home. I highly recommend coming here and trying what they have on menu. The Chocolate is sourced from the Ucayali Region which is in the Amazon Rainforest, so what you are tasting will most...
Read moreUkaw Chocolate is a great place to go for a delicious and unique meal. I recently had the chicken teriyaki salad with cacao nibs and the orange juice with infused chocolate drink, and I was very impressed.
The salad was fresh and flavorful, with the perfect amount of teriyaki dressing. The cacao nibs added a nice crunch and a bit of bitterness that balanced out the sweetness of the dressing. The chicken was also cooked perfectly, and it was very juicy and tender.
The orange juice with infused chocolate drink was also delicious. The orange juice was fresh and tart, and the chocolate added a nice richness and complexity. The drink was also very refreshing, and it was the perfect way to end my meal.
Overall, I was very impressed with my meal at Ukaw Chocolate. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very inviting. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique and delicious...
Read moreTheir hot chocolate (chocolate de la abuela) is amazing, truly my favorite chocolate ever. 😍❤️ The staff is really nice, they are friendly but I do have to say that last time I was on the counter ready to pay for my order and they all saw me there but still wouldn't assist me or ask if I needed something until the boy in charge finally took care of it. Other thing is that they usually put some fudge on the chocolate but sometimes, when the place is really full, there's no fudge at all :( - I do believe it's because they have to take care of other things so they forget to put it on. Overall this is still one of my favorite places to be at but I do prefer when it's not full (that's just me, I get a bit overwhelmed by crowded places). Oh I did forget to mention that their chocolate cake is the best I've had so far, it's not extremely sweet, it's moist and very vey...
