L’ KAISEI – Bacolod’s Longtime Gateway to Japanese Comfort Food L’ KAISEI isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a nostalgic staple for Bacolodnons craving Japanese cuisine that’s familiar, satisfying, and reasonably priced. Located along 9th Lacson Street in the Lourdes C. Building, this spot has been serving sushi, sashimi, and teppanyaki-style dishes for years, earning a steady stream of loyal diners and curious newcomers.
The menu is broad and approachable, offering everything from beef sukiyaki and katsudon to squid rice bowls, ramen, and tuna sashimi. While some dishes may lean sweeter than expected—like the squid rice bowl noted by a reviewer—the overall quality is consistent, and the portions are generous. Their sushi and sashimi selections are especially popular, praised for freshness and value.
The ambiance is simple and unpretentious, with seating that suits both solo diners and small groups. Service is generally friendly, and the prices fall within a mid-range bracket, making it accessible for students, families, and casual lunch-goers alike.
L’ KAISEI may not be the flashiest Japanese restaurant in town, but it delivers where it counts: comfort, consistency, and a sense of culinary familiarity. For those seeking a laid-back Japanese meal in the heart of Bacolod, it’s a reliable go-to with a quietly...
Read moreAccording to my friend, this used to be a much better place to eat - years ago. We forgot to take photos of the food due to not liking it and talking about how the food could be better. Cha Soba (cold) - dipping sauce shouldn’t be sweet 👎🏻 Ebi Tempura - had too much batter and was inconsistent from piece to piece. Taste was ok. Misono rice - serve cold and didn’t appear like newly cooked fried rice Tonkatsu - was okay but the sauce was like a home bottle Kani salad - was okay except for too much mayo 👎🏻 Japanese green tea - was okay, but didn’t taste authentic macha or hojicha. Was like a mix of green and chinese tea. Todu Steak - my friend said it was okay but unfinished food means something was not right.
Service and Atmosphere was average for a family size group but food was disappointing hence can only give max of 2 stars.
This is Bacolod and there are so many options of good food. I haven’t tried other Japanese restaurants but this doesn’t give any semblance of what Japanese food should be. More like cafeteria serving...
Read moreIve been going to this restaurant since i was a little kid. Everything is just as i remembered: great food, amazing staff and a wholesome environment.
Plenty of parking. Restrooms in the back. Bar seats. Two teppanyaki tables/grills. Private events space.
2006 was the last time before today that i had stepped into this restaurant. It has been at least 13 years that i have come visit, and one of the servers who had looked very familiar recognized me and my grandfather. The familiar server's name is Loreto, and he had been working in Kaisei for over 21 years since the writing of this review. He had said that my grandfather used to go to the restaurant with a young child. That young child was me. He remembered who we were, and that definitely means a lot to us. My childhood is attached to this restaurant and the many memories my family and I shared when i was still in Bacolod.
