Our lunch experience at Carloās Batchoy unfortunately fell short of expectations and eventually made us sick.
Opting for the beef pochero, we found the serving size generous, consisting of cabbage and a beef bone with meat. While the broth held a flavorful touch, it leaned heavily towards excessive saltiness. The bone meat, albeit acceptable, tended towards chewiness, while the standout was the crunchy cabbage.
The restaurantās ambiance resembled that of a fast-food joint. The most concerning aspect was that both my girlfriend and I fell ill post-meal. Itās unclear whether it was the meat or the broth that caused our discomfort.
Given this unfortunate experience, itās clear that revisiting Carloās Batchoy is out of the question for us. Even without the health issue, the overall impression wouldnāt have merited a return visit. I would not recommend this establishment to others, primarily due to the significant food-related concerns experienced...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām from the UK, and come to the Philippines every year to see family. This is some of the best Filipino food Iāve eaten. I waited until after our second visit to write this review, just in case it was a fluke. Really recommend the pork bicol express (creamy with coconut, and tons of ginger and green chilli). The pancit is good, as are the lumpia. The special batchoy was delicious. We also had some awesome crispy calamari on our first visit. Sweet and sour fish was excellent, succulent fish and only a thin layer of batter. And the garlic rice is brilliant. Itās a very casual atmosphere, kind of a greasy spoon cafe vibe. But itās clean, the staff are efficient, and every dish is clearly cooked from scratch. A little more expensive than a neighbourhood carinderia, but itās so tasty and fresh that we didnāt mind. Definitely worth visiting if...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy fiance and I ate here last night 5/4/16. We had the spicy batchoy, sizzling sisig, and fried shrimp.
The batchoy taste like they opened up and pack of pancit cantone and added some chili powder with a few slices of liver and called it a day. I couldn't finish the sisig, just a bad flavor and all that was good about it was the sizzling part. The shrimp were over cooked and you can taste the old frying oil which cooks into the food if they don't know. We left unhappy and still hungry. Lucky enough we saw a balot vendor to satisfy our late night hunger.
Being in Cebu for 3 days show that the food scene isn't very popular here. Most restaurants we ate at were not good. Being a chef I would rather cook my own meals instead of waiting money on...
