The taste of childhood for many Cebu denizens. The steamed rice still tastes like the delicious staple of memory. Among the dimsum choices, the best are the fried crab cakes and the quail egg siomai. Juicy, not dried out by oversteaming. The bacon-wrapped meat dumpling is umami-rich, with no trace of an old gamey pig. The mushroom siomai and regular pork siomai, however, are not as good as they used to be: still flavorful but starchy, not matching the flavor and texture of yore. The place is very clean. Dimsum, though eaten anytime during the day in Cebu, is traditionally a breakfast meal. So I am here early at the branch on General Maxilom Ave., which is open 24 hours. The floors and tables look fresh and disinfected even at sunrise. The counter where food is on display is neat, and the shrimp balls and the other dishes are freshly made. The early clientele has begun streaming in steadily, and the staff is courteous and efficient. Inexpensive meal but sulit, except for the starchy items, Dimsum Break is bang...
Read moreThis place is a joke. When I walked in there was a display case of some food that looked like it’d been sitting there for quite awhile. Thought it was only to display food. Big NOPE. They actually served the food from the display case. 😂 Granted it’s common to see food in a display case but not aged food 😂. Meanwhile, there was about 7 staff members sitting around staring at their phones. The one guy who was working was nice and did what he could but you could tell he was looking at everyone not working and felt embarrassed. Also, they shorted my order about 2 dishes & rice (take away) which they charged me for of course. I was picking the food up for my family to share and we all took 1 bite each and threw out the entire order. Shameful how anyone would pass this off as food. I’m only giving the service a 3 star for the guy working hard and the restaurant decor was decent....
Read moreI did my “to go” order in person in this branch when there are not much customers in line. I went home and found out it that the quail egg siomai I ordered was missing. Good thing my place is just walking distance. However, it was very inconvenient to go back to the resto to get the missing order when you are hungry already and you have to walk under the heat of the mid-day sun. When I got there to get the missing order, all they said is “nibalik si Ma’am” without even saying sorry for the inconvenience they caused. I just hope the server did not do it on purpose. 😞 So, my advise to everyone who gets their to-go order is not to trust your sealed order. Always double check that everything is complete...
