Mamou Made Nice — Restaurant in Makati

First the service.

I have no idea if reservation is needed so I texted their number to which they responded almost immediately. They answered all my questions and Aira, the one I talked to, even sent their menu which was pretty nice.

They suggested to make a reservation and provided me the time slots which I appreciate A LOT.

How they do reservations is how it should be, you call and they will reserve a table. No downpayment or anything. Give your name and that's it.

We arrived a bit early and asked if we want to dine earlier than scheduled. Again, I appreciate this a lot.

Now as to the food.

Price is a reasonable considering the quality and the amount preparation needed.

We ordered Karaage.

Damn the chicken was so tender and they paired it aioli, I think, failed to ask what the dip was but it's perfect.

Then the suggested Truffle pasta by most people.

It was good. I don't like truffles to begin with but this one I enjoyed.

Lastly the Angus Ribeye.

This one was the most expensive one but cheaper compared to others. We had the 400g for 3,000php. At first I thought 400g wouldn't be enough but I was dead wrong. It was more than enough, that's coming from a person who eats a lot of meat.

I had it medium rare which is my favorite. The meat was tender and the fat melts in your mouth.

Overall, this was a perfect selection for a date night.

You don't have to spend a lot to enjoy their food as you can always forgo their steak. Their other selection is...

Caesar salad with extra protein in the form of a live cockroach.

My wife and I were excited to try this place by Mamou on our get-together with friends after being away from Manila for years. Sadly, this visit left a bad taste in our mouth—to say the least.

As my wife was getting a serving of the caesar salad, she saw something move and was shocked by the sight of a live cockroach. The insect jumped from the heap of lettuce and onto my her leg.

While she was frozen in shock, I had to flick the cockroach off her leg. It landed on the floor. We called the waiter’s attention. He crushed the cockroach with his foot.

The waiter apologized and gave the lame excuse that the restaurant had their pest control recently done, so the roaches were coming out.

The salad was replaced. We had to ask from the waiter to change my wife’s table set.

It would have been apt for Mamou to offer some form of consolation for the incident but they just acted like nothing happened after their perfunctory, empty apology.

Even fast food restaurants refund your bill if you find hair in the food. And, live roaches are even more disgusting than hair. The unappetizing replacement salad was not even offered free. A good gesture would have been to at least cut the entire bill in half.

Mamou Made Nice miserably failed to rise to the occasion. A chance to turn the disgusting experience (and a traumatic one for my wife) to an easy win in customer relations was...

Food is superb! Quality is what you get for the prices they offer, Worth it!

Service is great! Very kind and polite servers! Always with a smiling face when they talk or greet you.

Restaurant is quite small, limited # of diners at a time can eat inside. The upper floor seats are not recommended. It is quite compact, you can hear other diners conversation and you cannot have initimate or some sort of a semi private dining experience. I am not saying to have an exclusive room or seats without any neighbors, but atleast a table where you can talk on a normal voice without others hearing you or vice versa. Definitely reserve or ask for seats at the ground flr if possible.

Lots of parking in the mall beside the resto.

We came here for a weekend dinner and did a walk in standby guest, luckily there were available seats after 30mins but only at the 2nd level.

Definitely will be back from time to time (will love tp try other food from the menu), but will make sure to make reservation for seats at the grd floor whenever i plan...
