When you step into a Paul in any city, you expect a certain standard of quality and service.
In Power Plant, Paul is a hit and miss, unfortunately. I went twice within one week and both times I had good and not as good experiences.
1st time, the chocolate almond croissant was good, flaky, fresh and melt in your mouth. Fantastic! As expected.
I also really liked their lemongrass tea with young ginger. I took it hot/warm. It came in a pot and it hit the spot. Perfect. I would return to Paul for this. Bonus points for the server who offered this beverage (which comes as Iced tea on the menu) as warm, if I minded.
The bread pudding looked good but in reality however it was heavy, and in the dry side. There was also no sauce that went with it to moisten the rather dry pudding. I’ve eaten my fair share of bread puddings in my lifetime and this didn’t even measure halfway.
The 2nd time, I had the ham and cheese ensaymada and it was the best! Soft, rich, yummy and all the good things you can think of. They warmed it up (or it was freshly made?) and it was perfect.
However, this time the chocolate almond croissant which was good a week ago, was now a disappointment. It was flat and seemed like it was heated in a microwave since parts of it were no longer flaky but tough.
The server checked and she assured us it was toasted the right way, not in a microwave but we had our doubts since we tried the good one just a week ago. The service in inquiring about the croissant was slow, it took almost 15 minutes to find out why the croissant was as dismal as it was.
Anyway, I will be back for the ensaymada and the tea. Too bad that Paul’s here isn’t consistent with...
Read moreAfter attending an event at Rockwell, me and my partner decided to have our lunch at Paul. The place is well designed and very appealing. We really love the Parisian Cafè ambience of this place. For more than 100 years in the market, Paul is an excellent Boulangerie, Patisserie, Restaurant, and Salon de Thé.
We had PAUL Burger, Chicken Ballotine, Cafè Gourmand and Shakerato.
PAUL Burger is my ideal burger. Their very own bread in this burger is very soft and freshly baked. The burger patty is really juicy and delicious. This is how I like my burger patty to be. My partner loves it too! We really enjoyed our burger until the last bite. C'est délicieux 💕
Stuffed with delicious bacon strip, sauteed spinach, French beans and cherry tomato, accompanied by Chicken red wine sauce (coq au vin), this tender and tasty Chicken Ballotine is a winner. Huge portion perfect for sharing. C'est délicieux 💕
If you want coffee with macaroons, try their Cafè Gourmand. This is a large coffee of your choice served with 3 mini macaroons. Our choice was cappucino accompanied by Vanilla, Pistachio and Caramel macaroons. The coffee was really good and the macaroons were perfectly made. They were crisp, soft, chewy and not too sweet. We love this combination.
Shakerato is perfect for those who want to have a good kick to start the day. It is a Double espresso shaken with ice and strained. We love this!
Service was excellent. The staff were so friendly and accomodating.
Overall, it was a great...
Read moreI didn’t bother to take photos because my experience left me wanting for more. Quite unfortunate that my wife and I were quite excited to dine there for the first time.
I ordered Filipino breakfast (I know, don’t trust a boulangerie to make your Pinoy breakfast, you’re bound to be disappointed) the Longganisa Patties. I was famished as we came from a long wait. When it came out, I was expecting a hefty serving and to see hollandaise sauce, balsamic vinaigrette, relish and garlic confit. But what you get is this uninspiring plate. Looked dry and that phallic serving of rice. I mean, I should’ve just gotten pastries which would’ve paired well with the morning cappuccino.
Keeping it at 3 stars because my wife had the French toast which was decent and their bacon was well made. Paired well with their Hazelnut Latte. Would’ve given another star, however I didn’t feel as welcome as those who seem to frequent the place. The server just said “yeah sure go ahead” as we asked if we could take a seat.
That’s about it. Had high hopes about this but there are much better places to spend breakfast around...
