Rude and passive aggressive to customers.
I have friend who will be in Manila and have always wanted to try Mr. Poon because or the really good reviews about their food. We did our part doing our research and read their long instructions in their fb page (which by the way is also rude, judgmental, and aggressive with the statement “ READING AND BASIC COMPREHENSION IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED ON THIS PAGE” and an ending statement of “THANK YOU for NOT being the reason that these rules keep getting longer 😊”). I messaged the viber at 2am. I was called out by the one I was talking to about messaging at 2am. I expressed sincere apology even though nothing was mentioned in the post about specific time allowed to message them. I still apologized to avoid conflict and continued on with my inquiry. However, I was again messaged once about the same concern with a rude and passive aggressive way.
I understand that businesses also encounter difficult customers which make them enforce such strict rules but I still this does not make them entitled to be rude to them especially when they are not specifically the ones who were rude to them previously and especially when they have already apologized and is willing to compromise. I believe they should also not be blaming the customers for systems which they should have in place. They should be the ones who have a system of how they manage their social media account in a way that it does not disturb them outside their business hours.
I know that you have been in the industry for years and that I am just one customer out of your loyal patrons and that my review/the money you may get from me may not be significant in comparison to others but I still needed to air this out because I have never been treated by any business OR ANY PERSON for that matter this rudely.
Even a restaurant with exceptional food and a long-standing reputation cannot afford to neglect customer service - because not matter how great the the meal, customer service can make or break a good dish to a traumatic experience.

Read moreMr. Poon in Malate takes reservations through Viber. No walk-ins. I think the system works very well! The food is delicious, freshly cooked just before the customer arrives. Prompt service! In other establishments, crowds and multiple orders can compromise the quality. That doesn't happen at Mr. Poon because of the pre-ordering; which prevents the kitchen staff from rushing through the cooking. The recipes are original, passed on across generations. I get the sense that, for the family that runs the place, doing the dishes right is a matter of honoring the legacy. So it feels like those favorite eating spots in Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong with foodie cultures running deep. I went on a Saturday for the specials Mr. Poon is known for. Super sarap! The beef was tender and flavorful. The salt and pepper ribs were not greasy. They were cleanly prepped, no gamey notes. All the pieces were crispy-brown on the outside, juicy on the inside, tasting somewhat nutty from the fresh oil used for frying I'm planning to try all the specials gradually. Next time...
Read moreMr Poon's is a wonderful little restaurant serving for the past five years a great variety of Chinese food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. As a testament to its quality and value, the restaurant seems to do excellent business with local families on the weekends and pretty good business on week nights. I dropped in quite a few times during my stay at a nearby hotel because the tastiness, portion size and price beat out all the local competition that I sampled during the week, even considering that its close to a large mall. There are plenty of vegetarian, seafood, and meat options to choose from. You should not come here for elegance - this is more of a loud simple sprawling open cafeteria floor plan with a push-formica-tables-together-to-fit-in-more-family-members atmosphere. They have a large TV that's always on without volume, alongside raucous music and guest chatter. Commercial product posters and signs with boisterous large font adorn the walls. But the delicious food makes up for everything the place lacks in fine...
