This is a typical small neighborhood Chinese restaurant in a tourist area. It has that old school Chinese restaurant vibe seen in movies with red tablecloths and decorations.
Food - Yue Lai excels in the usual Chinese favorites like fried rice, sweet and sour pork, steamed shrimp, fried spare ribs and stir fried noodles. Food is slightly salty but still reasonable. However, some of the items are not good, particularly the infrequently ordered items. We had the seafood soup which was too pungent. We also had the steamed Kingfish or Red Tilapia but it unfortunately tasted like soil. Be careful when ordering the live items in the aquarium as these are priced very close to top tier chinese restaurants. We ordered the Salted Egg Sea Mantis which was okay but not worth the price.
Service was prompt and friendly. They also served complimentary hot tea and free jelly dessert.
I would return just for the usual items like fried rice and sweet and sour pork but would avoid ordering less...
Read moreIf you are looking for an inexpensive but authentic Cantonese cousin this restaurant is a must. Atmosphere is typical Chinese. Inexpensive but practical. Waitresses are very professional and super friendly. Food is fantastic. Basically each dish comes in 3 different sizes: S,M,L. We had every order “S”. Beef casserole with radish. 0.85KG fresh steamed Grouper. 2 different veggie dishes. Deep fried pork spare rips with salt and pepper and the absolute highlight of the night, a plate with 10 fantastic hand made (made by the Chinese owner with his secret recipe) steamed dumplings. Rice and a large bottle Tsingtao beer. The damage was 4999 peso. Enough food for 4-6 people if all have their own rice. Don’t go by the looks of the restaurant. The food is Wgat you will...
Read morePlenty reasons why we should go back here. The place is good, perfect for family gatherings and a reliable place when meeting up with friends. The 2nd floor is very spacious. They accommodate private events/meetings. This is prolly one if not the best chinese resto in Metro Manila. The staff is very friendly. The food is amazingly good! I swear.
Here are my honest thoughts on what we ordered: 🥢Spinach with dry scallop soup. Served hot! Of course, inenjoy ko sya habang mainit init pa. Very rich in spinach. Di ko alam na masarap din pala to, panay Hototay Soup lang kasi inoorder namin before. This is really a must try. ❤️ 🥢Sliced chicken with century egg, mango, seaweed. It was served next to soup. It was good! For someone na ngayon lang nakatikim ng century egg, I consider it an amazing food experience. Yung sweetness ng mango, nagbblend prefectly sa taste ng seaweeds and chicken. Ang sarap! 🥢Hong Kong style boiled fat beef. Tender yung beef. This dish is very savory and I ate everything in it even the spices like scallions and chilli. A little bit spicy, that’s why super nagustuhan ko to. 🥢Yue Lai Fish. Sauce palang mapaparami ka na ng kanin. Soft yung fish meat and fresh tlaga. Obvious naman sa lasa. Isa sa mga nagustuhan ko to. 🥢Crispy pork with raspberry. First time ko to tlaga matikman. Di ko inexpect na masarap pala sa ulam ang raspberry, akala mo pang-dessert lang eh no. Kakaibang level itong dish na to. Very unique ang taste. Yung pork ay tasty and pleasantly crispy tapos yung raspberry medyo maasim na manamis namis. Perfect combination. Worth to try, I swear! 🥢Shrimp with brocolli in wasabi sauce. Okay yung shrimp, halos maubos ko na yung brocolli, eto yung luto sa brocolli na super nagustuhan ko. Lightly blanched kaya very crunchy. But since di ako masyadong mahilig sa mayo, di ako masyado nakarami nito. May mayo kasi yung sauce na may konting wasabi. Don’t get me wrong ha, masarap naman sya kaso hindi lang talaga ako mahilig sa mayo. 🥢Mango Pudding — the best!!! Ang sarap nito. Eto yung next oorderin ko na dessert. Creamy and soft ang texture ng pudding, pinong pino. Malinamnam. Flavorful. Uulit ulitin mo. Masarap lalo na pag dinagdagan pa ng evap milk.
Babalik balikan namin to. We’re...
