Bean & Yolk: All Hype, No Bite
I walked into Bean & Yolk with expectationsâespecially given their premium pricingâbut walked out with one clear thought: this place is the definition of style over substance.
The Food: âą Adobo Flakes: Not even flakes. Just sad, soggy, pulled pork that had none of the crispiness or flavor youâd expect. Honestly, they shouldâve just served me the pork cube whole because pulling it apart did nothing but dry it out. âą Chicken Tocino: Iâm convinced this wasnât tocino. It felt like plain chicken cubes lazily glazed with a sauce, zero marinade depth, and yesâcompletely dry. âą Ube Ensaymada: The most tolerable thing we tried, but for the price? Absolutely not worth it. Heavy, dry dough that sucked the joy out of what an ensaymada should be. The ube frosting was decentâtasted suspiciously like melted ice cream though. âą Churros: This one broke me. Nearly â±90 for one piece? The size was embarrassingâthin, small, crumbly, and flavorless. It tasted like pancake batter squeezed through a piping bag. The chocolate dip? So watery it slid off the churro like it was running away from the crime scene.
The Ambience: Spacious, yes. Clean tables and chairs, fine. But the smell? Awful. Like a mix of harsh cleaning chemicals and a neglected restroom. For a cafĂ©, I expected the aroma of coffee and bread, not bleach. Add to that harsh white lighting that felt more hospital ward than cozy cafĂ©âcompletely killed the vibe.
The Service: Mediocre at best. We had to ask for water three times. There werenât even many customers at 7AM, so no excuses. Food didnât come out at the same time eitherâeven when we ordered the same dish. To top it off, portions were inconsistent. Mine was clearly bigger than my friendâs, which just screams lack of standards.
Final Verdict: Bean & Yolk feels like itâs cashing in on aesthetics and Instagrammable branding while serving food that doesnât justify half the price theyâre charging. If you want to pay premium, expect premium quality. Unfortunately, this place falls...
Read moreI've been frequenting this resto for quite some time and only realized now that I haven't left a review for them. đ
Was here again yesterday (May 1) after a morning walk with our doggie (yes, this joint allows pets in the airconditioned area!). We frequent this place because my wife loves their mostly healthy items, plus the fact that they use Yardstick Coffee beans for all their coffee offerings. This time around I ordered their "not so healthy" options hehe. Got a Banana Caramel Waffle with extra bacon (Bacon is life!) while the wifey had her usual Eggs Bene with Salmon. You really can't go wrong with waffles with banana, whipped cream, and maple syrup. Same with the Eggs Bene, which this resto has perfected IMO. The coffee is always good here, no matter what you order. I love the fact that they have a variety of alternative milks, including coconut which I have been choosing over oat milk these past months. In the past I have ordered their Tapa Bowl, Breakfast Ramen, Mexican Rice Bowl, and a lot more. All have been satisfying. Btw, you have different choices of rice for the rice bowl offerings, from red/black rice to Cauli rice. A tip for first time diners though: The healthier the dish is described on the menu, expect less flavor. Expect delays in service when the place is packed. Food is usually served within 10-12 minutes, but sometimes it's the Coffee orders that get delayed. As for the ambiance, I feel the place is in need of a fresh coat of paint, and maybe improve the lighting as it is a bit dingy. Overall still a nice place to dine in especially for brekkie and brunch. If you are from the South this place is...
Read moreAfter the Run 7-Eleven 2025 event, we rested before heading to Bean & Yolk, a brunch spot we found online. Itâs located inside Westgate Center, and we were craving a good meal after the event. The place had plenty of natural light from the sun hitting the glass windows, but it was still cool inside.
We ordered the following:
Fresh Fries (â±275) True to the name, they were freshâlightly salted, crispy on the outside, and fluffy inside. The grated gouda and cured egg blended well, adding a bit of saltiness and umami. The aioli dip had a strong, bold garlicky flavor, which we really liked.
Chicken Tocino (â±325) The flavors were lackingâcould've used more seasoning as it didnât taste like tocino at all. The addition of vegetables like bok choy added a refreshing touch to the overall flavor.
Chicken Inasal (â±325) / Decent but lacked flavorâit felt like it was only marinated in toyomansi. The addition of vegetables like bok choy added a refreshing touch to the overall flavor.
Coconut Salted Caramel Latte (â±220) All the flavors blended wellâcreamy, salty, sweet, with a good kick of espresso.
Seasalt Cream Latte (â±215) Strong espresso flavor, and the coffee wasnât tangy or sour like some competitors. The sea salt cream was greatâdefinitely recommend sipping it first to get the creamâs flavor before the espresso kicks in.
While the meals fell short, we definitely enjoyed the coffeeâit really hit the spot. The restaurant is on the upper ground floor of the Westgate Hub, with both indoor and al fresco dining options.
Verdict: Babalikan...
