Sigekiya Ramen: A Hearty Bowl in Commerce Center
My recent lunch at Sigekiya Ramen in Commerce Center offered a comforting escape from a rainy afternoon, even if some aspects left me pondering. Opting for the Sigekiya Ramen lunch set, I was amused to find their "medium" size to be the most substantial offering on the menu – a nomenclature that still eludes me. Upon arrival, the bowl of ramen presented a striking resemblance to a local Filipino favorite, Lomi, with its thick, almost gravy-like consistency. This initial visual was quickly overshadowed by the first taste of the broth. It was undeniably heavy, a rich and deeply satisfying concoction that perfectly complemented the dreary weather outside. Each spoonful was a warm embrace, showcasing a depth of flavor that spoke of careful preparation. The chashu, a cornerstone of any good ramen, was a delightful surprise. Unlike the typical melt-in-your-mouth pork belly often found in ramen, Sigekiya's version had a distinct, almost rustic flavor, reminiscent of grilled country-style meat. This unique take on chashu added another layer of intrigue to the dish, departing from the expected and offering something refreshingly different.
The lunch set included a serving of gyoza, which, while tasty, also brought a familiar Filipino flavor to mind. The filling had a distinct resemblance to longganisa, the savory Filipino sausage, lending a sweet and savory note that was pleasant but perhaps not what one anticipates from traditional Japanese gyoza. Nevertheless, they were well-prepared and served as a good accompaniment to the hearty ramen.
The service at Sigekiya Ramen was largely commendable. The wait staff attending to my table was notably attentive and polite, a welcome touch that enhanced the dining experience. While I observed that some other staff members weren't as outwardly expressive, the efficiency and courtesy of my server certainly made a positive impression. In terms of pricing, Sigekiya Ramen sits in a similar bracket to establishments like Mendokoro. However, its proximity to the office in Commerce Center gives it a significant advantage, making it a convenient and appealing option for a satisfying lunch without venturing too far. Overall, Sigekiya Ramen delivered a hearty and flavorful meal, particularly enjoyable on a rainy day, with its unique take on chashu and surprisingly familiar gyoza making it a memorable experience. Despite the perplexing "medium" size, it's a spot I'd consider revisiting for another...
Read moreI’ve eaten at Sigekiya before, and I’m happy to say the ramen is still as delicious as ever.
Food:
Sigekiya Ramen (Signature Dish) – Highly recommended. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the topping of grilled pork really stood out with its smoky taste. Definitely the highlight of the meal.
Ebi Tempura – Crispy and tasty, though I wished the sauce had more grated radish to balance the flavor.
Gyoza – Standard but satisfying; nothing special, but not bad either.
Chahan (Fried Rice) – Okay though a bit on the oily side.
Karaage – This was the most disappointing dish. The chicken tasted like it had been frozen for too long, and the sauce was too much like a Chinese-style sweet and sour, which didn’t match well.
Ambiance & Service: The restaurant had a welcoming vibe. Staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to serve.
Overall: Sigekiya is still a great spot for ramen lovers, especially for their signature ramen with smoky grilled pork. The side dishes were a mix of hits and misses, with the karaage falling short. I’d return mainly for the ramen...
Read moreIf you want to get UTI and eat burnt food, this is the place you should go to. We ate at Sigekiya Commerce center and expected our experience to be superb since the mall is situated in a prime area. However, we left the place VERY disappointed!!! We ordered 2 bowls of Sigekiya ramen and 1 okonomiyaki. The ramen was VERY SALTY that I had to add a cup of water in it. While the okonomiyaki was burnt and tasted bitter. We didn’t get to finish our food since the taste was so bad! I asked the waitress why was the okonomiyaki burnt and she said its really the way they cook it. So I guess they ALWAYS SERVE BURNT okonomiyaki?! I really disagree on this, I always eat okonomiyaki at different Jap restos and this is the ONLY restaurant that served us BURNT okonomiyaki! BAD...
