A fine modern cafe placed nicely in the corner of a street in the heart of Tacloban. They serve delicious meals, pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, desserts, and beverages, including their own house specialties. The establishment is decorated remarkably, a cut above the standard for most cafes here in the Province. Although what holds this establishment back from being a genuine top quality cafe is its lack of service.
For being a multi-story cafe establishment, expecting the customers from the second floor and above to descend and pick up their food back up the flight of stairs is an experience that takes away from enjoying the cafe.
Anybody can argue that it isn't a big of an ask, and to an extent, that is true, but the establishment prices its selections as though you'd already be paying for that service.
And if, on the off chance that a customer trips and drops their order as they ascend the flight of stairs due to their lack of skills, their lack of a choice in the matter, which is to be assumed needing of and the offering of assistance is a detriment to providing a whole and immersive cafe experience. Read moreOn Tacloban's standards, She's Amilia is a very, very expensive restaurant. And yet, portions are undersized and you have to come get your own food and take it to a table. Similarly, service is on par with McDonalds, with employees doing no more than taking your order and putting it on a plastic tray. The menu has just a few diverse items with ingredients not commonly found in Philippines (e.g. beef). But a single scoop of plain white rice appears to be in all of them, even when two scoops would be more appropriate for the amount of viand. I had the beef stroganoff, which was no longer hot by the time I started digging into it. It might have been waiting for my fellow diners' dishes to be complete. The dish was tasty, if hard to chew, but that was it - just a scoop of rice and a scoop of beef stroganoff, looking somewhat lonely on a plate 3x too large for it. Total bill for the three of us was over 1400 (about $23 USD). Everyone else I saw there was studying with coffee with laptops and headphones, not eating dinner. So perhaps a hang-out coffee shop is what She's Amilia is...
Read moreThis place is amazing! The exterior and interior designs are aesthetic and lovely. It makes you feel welcome. I like the painting and arts. The food and drinks are tasty, what I like the most is the pizza and Amelia's Cherry Blossom drink!
The Cafe raises awareness to people with special needs and they even have wheelchair ramp up to the 2nd floor. My mom worked with special kids and adult at the Mental Hospital, she would bring me to socialise with them playing and drawing with them. They are all unique and bright on their own way! I hope people who visit this place have realization that like everyone else, we all want to be loved and...
