My significant other and I stopped by for dinner last night, at Paul. We ordered a beef bourguignon and a chicken sandwich for our main courses, and a chocolate tartlet for dessert. Paul, the manager, was extremely professional and sociable. We praised him for the excellent quality of dishes we ordered. Being a beef bourguignon connoisseur myself, I was very pleased to have found at least one establishment in Manila that serves a very fine beef bourguignon dish ā just like home. As for the chocolate tartlet, the simple mousse-like consistency of the chocolate, coupled with the crunch of the crust, paired well together, without either of them overpowering the other. Paul also managed to explain to my significant other, the reasons for why the chicken was chopped into bits rather than being served in strips. Additionally, the pommes frites (French fries) stood out to us, and we had hoped that they would continue to serve that particular version. This version was apparently a workaround since their supplier had issues with potatoes, but we thought it was brilliant and had requested for Paul to mention to higher management, to keep it on the menu. Lastly, the butter was also a pleasant surprise ā most likely hand-churned ā as it was served exactly the way I prefer my butter to be, i.e. airy and creamy.
Our compliments to the chef and please keep up the good work! Hopefully, changes will come to only improve and refine the food, rather than completely alter it. Generally-speaking, we are pleased with the way things are, as a baseline. Perhaps the quantity of the beef bourguignon could be increased, but I'd rather sacrifice quantity over quality (considering the harsh times these days for most).
We look forward to visiting Paul once again in the future, and being greeted by Paul, the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMe and my wife was looking for a quick breakfast at SM Aura because the Hypermarket was still close to buy some groceries to bring it back to Chicago. We chance upon Paulās and itās the first one we saw by the main entrance of the mall. We ordered our meal, coffee and also some breakfast croissants at their bakery. After 15 minutes, our food arrived and was served by the waiter, he put the plates with our breakfast first and then he laid down the utensils covered by a napkin and suddenly a cockroach came out from it and we got startled and the waiter grabbed the utensils together with the roach and immediately brought it back to the kitchen. He came back with new utensils and said sorry. My wife asked for the manager and she came, we explained the problem and she apologized and said āwe will bring out new breakfast for usā. She also said they just had an infection control company that came yesterday and sprayed all over their kitchen and probably that brought out the cockroaches for where they are hiding. I told her weāre leaving and wonāt eat anymore and she said we will be charged for the the drink and the bread that we ate and the other bread we did not consumed because for that reason. The place looks really aesthetically pleasing and good but in terms of sanitary conditions, Iāll give them a sub zero. The manager could have just offered us not to pay anything because of the inconvenience but still insisted that we should pay what we consumed. Just beware the next time you chance...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNormally this is one of my favorite cafes, but this location isnāt very good. I ordered an omelette, which was served luke-warm, as if they cooked it first and ignored it while they made my wifeās food. My food was ok, but not hot as it should have been.
When I asked to pay, the waiter brought the bill and I put my card inside and he walked off and ignored us for about 10 minutes! I look over and see him and two others over at the counter joking and laughing, totally ignoring the customers. Finally I stood up and hand carried the bill and card to the waiter and apologized for interrupting his break, but I would like to pay and leave.
This places charges a āservice feeā with every bill, and I guess they need to, as I wouldnāt tip with service like this.
Finally, while the cafe latte was ok, the brewed (or Americano) coffee was over-roasted, dark and bitter. Even adding milk barely made it drinkable. The manager needs to find a better supplier of coffee.
Oh, one more thingā¦our meal was tainted by some moron sitting nearby with a laptop, conducting a business meeting online, talking very loudly. I feel the staff/manager should have asked the guy to take it outside, as this place isnt a business office! Or go to Starbucks! Several of us customer ls were glaring at the guy, who obviously...
