Food 4/5 Truffle Cream & Corn Mafaldine The pasta was perfectly al dente, however the corn was overwhelming. Naturally, the truffle was cancelled out by the sweetness of the corn, and it got a bit cloying after a few bites.
Aglio Olio & Scampi This was one of our favorites from the menu. Only great chefs can make truly delicious aglio olio, so hats off to the chefs who made our aglio olio. I would go back to S&F just for this dish.
Australian Mayura Wagyu Tenderloin We opted for a leaner cut instead of the indulgent striploin, as a great chef would know how to handle a filet. It was cooked well, with no grey bands upon cutting into it. However, it was a bit under-seasoned. Maybe that was the intention as to not become too salty once paired with the S&F steak sauce. It was still good, and the portion was generous.
Chicken Confit The skin was crispy, but it was at the expense of the meat, which turned out dry for some reason. It was well-seasoned though, and paired well with the truffle fried rice.
Buttery Mashed Potatoes It was indeed buttery and addictive. I believe a chef is worth his salt when he can take a dish as plain as mashed potatoes into a different level.
Truffle Creamed Spinach While it was cooked well, there was barely any hint of truffle upon tasting.
There were generous portions, and the fries were always crispy. It was good, but there's still room for improvement.
Atmosphere 5/5 If S&F was gorgeous at night, it radiates more in daylight. It reminds me of eating out for Sunday roast back in London. Maybe this is something S&F could possibly venture into, as the vibe is already there.
Service 2/5 It pains me to write this as someone who is also in F&B, but the service was disappointing. Upon entry, one hostess was busy on the landline, so we patiently waited for her. Another hostess talked to us instead. Admittedly, we did not make a reservation and we made this known, so she gave a caveat that our table would only be available for 1h15m as there was another reservation, so we agreed. Although, if we were turned away, we would have completely and happily understood.
I wish it was simply left at that, but upon hearing we had no reservation, the hostess's face changed, clearly annoyed. We nevertheless agreed to her conditions for our dining in, but before being led to our table, the hostess deemed it necessary to look at our party from head to toe. We were dressed well for the occasion, so I do not see the point of that. Before anyone can say that she didn't do it, our party can vouch for it. The hostess was petite so we definitely noticed her head move. Who wants to start off a dining experience with such unprovoked lack of warmth? And no, we weren't being rude.
Thankfully, Yuri was such a ball of light that more than compensated for the rest of the staff. He was attentive, helpful, and was quick to joke around with. That man deserves a raise or a promotion! I would have preferred that our tip, on top of the service charge, went to him fully instead. Yuri embodies the warm service that S&F prides itself on!
When our 1h15m dining deadline was quickly coming up, and a different waitress came up to our table to remind us of the deadline, so we asked to have everything packed up. However, as we were paying, even past our deadline, we noticed that there were still empty tables that could have allowed us to stay. Yuri actually offered to let us transfer to a different table, but our food had already been packed, so it was time to go. Even though it wasn't busy, it took a long time to get our bill and the other waiters and waitresses had their backs turned to us for some reason.
Apart from Yuri, service could definitely still improve. I didn't expect to receive such service from an upscale place, considering how exceptional the service is in Cibo, Lusso, and Grace Park. I would definitely still go back and explore the rest of the splendid menu. I just hope the service improves by then.
P.S. I will definitely make a reservation for...
Read moreUpdate: The management contacted me via text to apologize for our experience we had our first time dining there. They invited us back for a comped meal.
We were hesitant but decided to take them up on their offer.
This experience was much different than our first experience.
The service on our first visit was really good. Pretty much the best thing about our experience. It was even better our second visit. This is how service should be! The waitstaff were incredible.
Service 10/10. Some of the best service I've experienced in any restaurant including restaurants outside of the Philippines.
OK enough about that, let's get to the food.
For our starter we had the Bacon Steak Caesar Salad. This was pretty good, but a little sweet for my liking.
7/10
For our mains we had the Spicy Spaghetti & Meatballs and the US Ribeye (Entrecote) 400g/14oz.
The Spaghetti and Meatballs were better than I thought they were going to be. The sauce tasted pretty fresh with lots of tomato flavor. The meatballs were my favorite part. You can taste they have italian sausage in the recipe or Italian sausge seasoning. The dish itself is not very spicy, but does have a little heat to it. I would definitely order this again.
8/10
The Ribey was cooked to perfection this time and was still hot when we received it. Very tender and lots of flavor. The rice was seasoned better this time around as well. I would order this again as well.
8/10
I hesitate to give any restaurant a 5 as to me this means it can't get any better. Every restaurant has room for improvement and no restaurant is perfect.
All in all a great experience on our 2nd visit and we will return here to have dinner.
Original review: Unfortunately, the best thing we ate here was the complimentary shoestring potatoes. They were really good. The service was great and the restaurant is pretty nice, but the food needs A LOT of help.
Service: 8/10
Atmosphere: 8/10
Parmasean Soup: It was pretty tasty, but nothing that would blow you away. 6/10
Ribeye Steak: I ordered it Medium. I received it Medium Rare and the steak was room temperature. ROOM TEMPERATURE!! Very disappointing to say the least when you are paying over P3k for one dish. The rice was OK. Nothing special could use more seasoning for sure. It was on the bland side. 2/10 for the steak and rice
Agli Olio Scampi: They should probably take this dish off the menu. It was BLAND. It was like eating plain pasta. The sauce had ZERO flavor. 0/10
Needless to say we will not be returning to Steak & Frice. Our bill was over P5k and the food was disappointing to say the least. There are plenty of better options that serve better food in BGC.
If I'm going to eat steak, I'll go to to Ruth's Chris. For around the same price I can get a steak cooked to perfection that is hot and delicious.
For pasta go to Va Bene. It's in Central Square mall. It's alway...
Read moreThis is one of the best restaurants I've ever went to. I was looking for a good restaurant in BGC that shouts "classy" and "good food". Reason for this being I was about to propose to my Girlfriend.
We found this restaurant on google maps and immediately made a reservation. The restaurant does inform you about your reservation and ask for confirmation. They're very good in communication.
The night arrives and we went inside the restaurant. Told I had a reservation. They gave us the best seats in the house where we were near the glass window pane viewing the busy streets of High Street. We were also in a corner so we were far away from the noise letting us have our own world.
The servers gave us the menu and took our orders. They gave us Complimentary Popcorn while waiting for the dishes to arrive. It was well seasoned and savory.
Our first dish was the Ratatouille (like in the movie!). The combination of the roasted vegetables works really well giving it that tangy yet refreshing taste.
Then, our Salmon Sushi arrived. It had a nice texture and the wasabi sauce was a great partner for it. Next, the Lobster Ravioli arrived. This was one of the best dishes we had that night. You can taste the chunks of lobster when biting in one of those pasta. You can also taste the Lobster in their sauce!
Finally, our US Rib eye Steak arrived, medium rare just like we wanted. Boy, I tell you the steak was very tender and very juicy. It had enough seasoning to improve the flavor but not totally overpower it. The pepper corn gravy was also a great match for the steak itself! The peppery flavor combines well with the umami the steak gives.
The steak also had complimentary Steak Rice and Fries (hence, Steak & Frice). The rice paired beautifully with the steak, not to mention the fries as well were crispy and well seasoned. You can also get one free refill of frice if not yet satisfied.
The moment came we had dessert. As planned, the servers helped me proposed to my girlfriend by giving us a plate with the question in writing. And she said yes! hahaha. They had a insta with them and gave us a souvenir picture to capture the moment we had for that night.
We will never forget this night and the great food for our lives. We will definitely come back here! Thank you again for Steak and Frice in helping me...
