Restauracja Stare i Nowe — Restaurant in Katowice

I recently moved to the Hotel Olympia in the Spodek. Of course I went walkabout to check on places to eat nearby. Unfortunately the area around the Spodek is very thinly populated with eateries, cafes and pubs. Basically I couldn't find anything decent north of the hotel besides a few Alkohole and late night markets. So I turned around and checked the area directly around the Rondo, where I observed a few places on Google Maps, a pizzeria (Godfather) and a place called City Rock. Imagine my surprise when I find a boutique sized restaurant unobtrusively wedged in between, called Stare i Nowe. The place offers tables in different sizes, can seat about 25. Few people inside at that time. Had to wait a bit, just one waittress and she was taking orders, but as soon as she was done I grabbed a table and pointed at the menu lying on top of it, announcing an asparagus menu with white wine. Just the thought of asparagus made me drool. Of course nothing beats true dutch asparagus, but I'm willing to eat anything related these days. There's so little decent to be had regarding that vegetable. Anyways, out came an appetized, just a piece of mozzarella with some dressing, disappointing. Soup next, a creme based asparagus/crouton/pine tree nuts. Quite appetizing. Accompanied by a decent white, properly chilled, it laid a nice foundation for the asparagus with trout. The portion seemed a bit small, but with another tot of white and the rhubarb crumble cake afterwards I was fully satisfied. Tasty, surprising and fresh. My main comments on this place. When I visited Katowice last month I was coming to this restaurant serveral times to eat. The restaurant looks very nice with an cozy interior. Also the food is very nice for a very good price! I especially loved the fresh tomato soup with mascarpone it's really delicious and reminded me of how my mother made it at home. I ate here different kind of things, and it's all nice. I really liked the spareribs with sauerkrout, the spareribs are really big, but the meat melts away on your tongue. And the sauerkrout is just how I liked it. I also eat some Pizza's here, those are very could. Only I order the pizza without gorgonzola because I don't like it for my personal taste. And last but not least I want to thank the waiter for his kindness, and also he makes very good lemonade, it's really refreshing and not to sweet. And he's also in for a good talk. On the last day there was a girl that's also very kind! I hope to come back soon to Katowice and that I can eat again at this...

Nice restaurant , the Waiter is so Nice And very kind , very friendly with nice smile. Every time he was coming to check if everything is ok ? If do I like the food ? Drink ? Atmosphere? The way how he works shows that he is very professional. 10 stars for service. Tomato soup and pizza - was good . Didn't like just one thing - stuff from the kitchen was very noisy - that I had to say to waiter about it .
