Long-awaited new restaurant with a plum position overlooking Błonia and helping to address the relative paucity of such places in Salwator.
Coffee is delivered in partnership with Salvator Espresso, so you’re in safe hands here. The rest of brunch was a mixed bag, but the menu contains plenty of inducements for further exploration, and the service was as sweet as honey.
The problem is, a restaurant isn’t just about food, it’s about ambience. And unfortunately the interior is a disaster that the eye-catching neon signage can’t mitigate. The owners have somehow created the city’s ugliest dining space, a homage to utilitarian, institutional monochrome that’s about as inviting as a prison canteen.
There’s a real mismatch between the blingy deli offering (think Dolce & Gabbana-branded panettones) and the cheap-looking flooring and black leatherette banquettes that look like they belong on American train rolling stock from the eighties.
The lowlight is a pale pink carpet on the wall - the wall! - onto which someone has tried to recreate the restaurant’s logo with their finger.
This place has enough positive attributes not to be a total write-off, but one can only hope the owners have enough funds left to give the decor the rethink it so badly needs.
EDIT: In response to the owners’ reply: “If you’re explaining, you’re losing” - Lee Atwater. Instead of imbuing your decor with historical ‘significance’, which most people will not get, why not just create an appealing, inviting space? That should be the only criterion when it comes to a restaurant’s decor. You’re...
Read moreReally wanted to love this bistro 🙁. It's in our neighbourhood and was first time we visited. It's a nice, clean modern bistro and liked the semi-outside seating. Food was very tasty, especially the broth. The service was very poor. So poor, we were going to order more food but left before we did because the service was so slow and bad. I left hungry. My appetizer was forgotten by the server. After reminding them I got it after my main. There was just wayyyy too long waiting for attention, even had to ask them to come. There were 2 servers and only three tables had customers. What on earth they were doing, who knows.
I dont remember the last time I left a restaurant hungry and so disappointed
I run a Krakow facebook travel group with 150k members. Would have loved to give the bistro a recommendation and it was a big opportunity missed for them
There has obviously been some good money invested here and effort invested into the food. So how you can allow the front of house staff to let you down like this has me scatching my head. Even though it's so close to me, doubt...
