Żonglerka — Restaurant in Krakow

One of my favorite bistró in town. I´m Italian and I have lived in Krakow for six years, it's extremely difficult for me to find places in Poland where the quality of the ingredients and preparations is comparable to the Italian one (with all due respect to the polish cuisine, which i love). In addition to the food itself, I miss the atmosphere of the neighborhood bar typical of my land, that bar or bistro where it is easy to feel a little like home ... Zonglerka practically embodies all this and much more: the ingredients are very fresh, the ideas of the courses are brilliant, refined, tasty, bold. I ate some things here for the first time in my life (oysters, tripe, liver, bone marrow) and rediscovered flavors I knew as if I ate them for the first time. And the wine, the wine is exceptional, I stopped drinking "normal" wine after trying their natural wines, I love the fermented taste of certain bottles, the natural flavors, ancient and fresh at the same time, of certain glasses. Zonglerka is not just a bistró, it's an experience: the same bottle or the same dish (at the time of the pandemic there was the take away option) does not taste the same when consumed elsewhere. I love to sit at the counter and watch how the various dishes are cooked. Even the simple fact of not being a simple customer who is served at the table, far from the theater-kitchen, but rather being part of the scene, observing how every single ingredient has a story, being able to ask and talk to Szymon and Julka about how these dishes are chosen, prepared, makes Zonglerka one of the most interesting and lively culinary adventure in Poland, if not more. Niestety Żonglerka okazała się dla mnie i dla całej paczki znajomych wielkim rozczarowaniem. W restauracji nie ma specjalnie miejsca żeby zjeść w ludzki sposób. Jest tak naprawdę tylko jeden stół jadalniany. Planowaliśmy przy nim usiąść, ale już na samym początku (mieliśmy rezerwację) usłyszeliśmy pretensjonalne "to nie dla was". Ok, rozumiem, tylko można było to ująć słowami, które nie dałyby klientom wrażenia, że są tu niechciani. Usiedliśmy zatem na zewnątrz przy malutkich, wysokich na 30-40cm stolikach, przy których ledwo można napić się kawy, a co dopiero zjeść jakiekolwiek danie główne. No ok, ale takie zostały nam zarezerwowane - tylko, że skoro tak to najpierw wypadałoby je przetrzeć i dostawić jakieś krzesełka, żeby w ogóle klient mógł sobie usiąść. Następnie podano nam menu i jednocześnie poinformowano, że nie ma niestety karty win. Ok, zdarza się, kupiliśmy więc wino, które już wcześniej znaliśmy z innych miejsc nie wiedząc ile za nie zapłacimy. Jednocześnie obsługa nie poinformowała, że nie ma możliwości płatności kartą(informacji nie ma też w menu)- co jest niedopuszczalne, jeżeli nie ma wspomnianej karty win i nie wiesz ile zapłacisz. Wybraliśmy dania główne - cała czwórka to samo, a i tak wszystkie przyszły zimne bądź letnie(!) i to przy łącznie 3-4 gościach w restauracji oprócz nas. Może tak miało być i się nie znam, ale makaron z sosem zwykle jada się na ciepło. Na sam koniec, musieliśmy wręcz dopraszać o rachunek, który po dwóch prośbach został nam położony na stoliku bez żadnych słów "jak smakowało?", "czy było w porządku?" etc. Finalnie okazało się dodatkowo, że za dość tanie wino w bistro jakim jest "Żonglerka" należy zapłacić prawie 200% więcej niż kosztuje ono w sklepie co moim( i nie tylko) zdaniem jest niedopuszczalne(zwłaszcza, że nie wypijesz go nawet wygodnie), poczuliśmy się wręcz oszukani. Po opuszczeniu restauracji wszyscy ochoczo udaliśmy się coś zjeść ;).

Nie polecam, a wręcz odradzam. Jeżeli szanujesz swoje pieniądze to jest w Krakowie wiele miejsc, gdzie warto je wydać - na pewno nie jest to...

What an awesome cafe/bar! Definitely worth the short walk from Stare Miasto. The food is full of flavour and where possible they try to use local products. The service is friendly and coffee is on point. If you’re a bread lover, you’ll love the soft, spongy loaves they use for the sandwich.

There’s no kitchen which I think makes the sandwiches even better (you can only order sandwiches and an egg) because they have only 2 options so they choose ingredients very carefully.

I came here for lunch and enjoyed it... although I think coming here in the evening will be even better because of the wine and atmosphere is more like a bar...
