We were drawn in by the high review. However, we find it impossible to correlate our actual experience to the astronomically high praise it seems to receive. You can draw your own conclusion on how did that happen.
My partner and I are extremely well exposed to all kinds of South Asian cuisines and its subtypes. We had plenty shares of all kinds of South Asian foods, make it Punjabi, South Indian, Sri Lankan or whatever. We also have had amazing Indian foods across the global whether its in actual South Asia, or North America & South East Asia.
This is one of the worst and most blend Indian food we've ever had to date in Europe - very much like what you get in a British countryside where no customer understands the slightest of spice. The lamb we ordered was dry to the bone and almost felt like leftovers. Portion is also quite small for what it is.
We observe awful hygiene standards in its floor and washroom. The night after this meal I had severe stomach pain and diarrhea. And the poor ventilation made our entire wardrobe smelt like being baked in a range hood.
The restaurant is extremely hectic, people being shifted around constantly, and simply getting a bill or even a menu as close to impossible.
The server simply wouldn't care if you are happy about the food or not. We got a simple "thank you very much" when we replied "no" to his generic and robotic "do you like your food" question.
In any case, Krakow is an amazing gastronomy wonderland, you should totally...
Read moreIndian Flame on Wielopole is, in my opinion, (one of) the best Indian restaurant in Kraków. We went as a group of seven and ended up trying a big mix of dishes, which was the best way to experience the menu. The Chicken 65 starter was a first for me and turned out to be a really nice surprise – crispy, spicy, and super tasty.
For mains, we had things like chicken korma, butter chicken, dal, and tandoori chicken. Every dish was full of flavor, with sauces that were rich but not heavy, and the meat was noticeably better quality than in most other Indian places I’ve tried in the city – really tender and well cooked. We also had different types of naan (garlic naan was a favorite at the table) and some fragrant rice. The best way to enjoy it is to order a variety of curries and share everything around – mixing them together with the naan and rice was perfect.
The restaurant has been getting really popular lately, so I’d recommend booking a table in advance. It was completely full when we visited and there was a big queue outside. If you’re looking for Indian food in Kraków, this is the place I’d go back to...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our dinner today at this great Indian restaurant! We picked it based on others' reviews and we completely agree about how wonderful the food and staff were. My favorite Indian dish is Lamb Rogan Josh and not every restaurant has it and that was also a selling point for trying this restaurant; it definitely did not disappoint! I don't like much heat and the "not spicy" option was the perfect amount of spice for me. My husband got the Lamb Kadhayi, spicy, which he also enjoyed very much. We paired our food with basmati rice and garlic naan, mango lemonade and mango lassi. While the restaurant isn't in the main square in Old Town and doesn't have outdoor seating, which may be a draw back for some people, we much preferred this wonderful meal and restaurant to choosing something in the more popular tourist area a few minutes away. The hosts were also very sweet to our kids and gave them treats. We highly recommend this restaurant and will visit again on a future...
