Absolutely fantastic restaurant.
I've been coming here for many months now, and I'd say there are very few complaints to have at all. To start with, the staff are amazing and really try hard to deliver excellent service. After only 2 visits already we were recognised and made to feel extremely welcome and a part of the family of visitors. I am not a Polish speaker, but that was accommodated well and my limited Polish was encouraged with a smile. We get welcomed with a smile every time coming here, often with a wave and a hello, which we really appreciate.
Onto the food, it's really spectacular. Talerz offers traditional Polish food, but done in a more interesting, or potentially gourmet way. Simple items like a chicken cutlet are served with panko breadcrumbs rather than simple breadcrumbs, and the menu implies the chefs are creative and wish to explore the boundaries of Polish cuisine. It's fancy, it's delicious, but it doesn't go to far like I've seen in some other places near me. The desserts offered here can be worth it alone too. Krakow lacks options for a nice chocolate cake dessert with some ice cream along-side it. Talerz will give you that, with a little bit more (their ice cream quality is great).
If I had to make any downside with this place I'd mention that you may need to wait a little longer than usual on things. But honestly I'd suggest that's not a big issue if you expect and plan for it, since that waiting time is a good thing in terms of the quality of your meal. I have some culinary experience, so I understand their situation. The staff are very committed and passionate. While you may need to wait a little longer than other places, you can know that the staff are dealing with your order personally and with their full potential. They care to make sure that the quality of each dish is perfect, and with standards such as here, I'm happy to wait. I think the chefs in the kitchen treat each dish individually, with their full attention, to make sure that quality is exactly as they advertise for every customer. Once, we had an issue with a waiting time being longer than expected and the waitress at the time came to us to mention there was an issue, and to expect a longer wait. This honesty I appreciate very much. Other times the service was so quick that salt arrived on our table even before we had time to think that we needed some!
All in all, of course, nowhere is truly perfect. But where Talerz had issues they were always honest to explain, and otherwise an amazing place to go for dinner. For the food the waiting time might be longer, but you can even see through the kitchen window that's because the chef puts a lot of care into preparing each dish. You will get an interesting and fancy take on Polish food, with amazing people to serve it to you. Please give these...
Read moreWas looking for somewhere close to our hotel to try some Polish food. Found this about a 10 to 15 minute walk. There was just one other group of diners in. It was around 7.45 and they close at 9pm so had plenty of time. My friend is vegetarian and we wanted to try the dumplings and potato pancakes so opted for 3 dishes. Sweet potato fries with aioli dip. Fab. We had cottage cheese dumplings with sour cream. Also delicious. Because my friend is vegetarian we asked for the goulash to be put in a separate bowl. All I can say is that it was absolutely delicious. The pork was so tender and the gravy delicious I asked for some bread to soak it up. Pancakes also very nice. We decided to share a New York cheesecake with lime. Also delicious. Had an aperol spritz and Pepsi Max and the total was 160pln which is about £32. Our server was very helpful and lovely. Would definitely recommend. Meant to take photos of all of the food but forgot the pancakes and dumplings. Just the sweet potato fries. Thank you again for the warm welcome from the 2...
Read moreWhat I liked about this place was that it was like a Polish restaurant for today. We are tourist and we tried a couple of Polish restaurants in the old town and they all had that tourist feel where we were sitting with mainly tourists and every dish felt like it was on the menu for the tourists because it's traditional and the recipes haven't changed for years. But this restaurant felt like a much more modern version of traditional Polish food updated for today's palate. I much prefer this style of Polish food.
We got the Tartare which was amazing. My wife said it was the best Tartare she's ever had! We also had the duck pierogi which is really good. We had the normal ruskie pierogi too but that tasted very much like other pierogi we had all around Krakow. I also loved my duck breast with seared gnochhi!
If you've had plenty of traditional Polish I highly recommend trying this modern Polish restaurant. The prices were super reasonable as well with my duck only...
