While visiting Warsaw, we were really craving Thai food and stumbled across Sambal when searching nearby options. Although it wasn’t Thai, the Indonesian menu intrigued us — and wow, are we glad we gave it a go! As someone who absolutely loves Asian cuisine, I can honestly say this was one of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. The tempeh was a revelation — not meat, but with a satisfyingly meaty texture, and served with a sticky, spicy sauce that was packed with flavour. The beef rendang was beautifully tender, slow-cooked to perfection until it was falling apart, and bursting with deep, rich taste. The lamb skewers were equally outstanding — juicy, well-seasoned, and grilled to perfection. Even though we were full, we couldn’t resist the fried banana for dessert — and it did not disappoint. If you’re in Warsaw and craving Asian food, I wholeheartedly recommend Sambal. It’s an absolute gem — bold flavours, authentic dishes, and a dining experience you won’t forget.

Our delegation was guided by the Tur to this Indonesian restaurant — and what an incredible experience it was! The flavors were absolutely exquisite — a stunning, delicious blend of spices in perfect harmony. Every dish was a celebration of taste and tradition. We were truly delighted! A heartfelt thank you to our waiter Rizal for his warm hospitality and attentive service🙏🏻💓🌞

This restaurant, if I'm not mistaken, is the only non-fusion Indonesian restaurant in Warsaw, Poland. I've had the chance to try many of their dishes, so I'll try to break them down.

The soto was warm, savoury, and quite hearty. It paired very well with warm white rice, and it tastes authentic, much like its counterparts in Indonesia. I also appreciated how the restaurant were not skimpy with the ingredients inside the soup.

The Itiak Lado Mudo was very filling and very very spicy. If you like super spicy foods, this one's for you. The duck was also well-seasoned and very tender.

The Rendang also tasted very authentic and flavourful. You can really taste the deep braised coconut flavour, and all the spices just soak into the tender pieces of beef. This dish was also hearty and so satisfying.

Last but not least, the Ikan Bungkus Papua was very flavourful, fresh, and aromatic. I loved the blend of super fragrant spices since they complemented the texture and natural taste of the mackerel fish. However, since there was about two bone-in pieces of fish that was wrapped in the banana leaf wrapping, you do have to be a bit more careful in eating it. You may choke if you eat too fast, and some bites will have some more stray bones than other.

Overall, I'm impressed with how they've brought Indonesian flavours to Warsaw. I loved the execution, and I also appreciate that they incorporated various proteins and introduced Indonesian dishes that may not be too famous in general. I also have to give a shout-out to the great staff, which made the atmosphere feel very welcoming, and the whole experience wonderful.

This is the first review of a restaurant I have ever written, and I'm actually reticent to post it because it's not a positive one; it is a fair and honest one, however. I would like to urge customers not to write completely over inflated reviews, based upon sentimental feelings, rather than honestly and objectively judging the food and eating experience on their merits.

I chose the beef dish, which is described as 'considered the best dish in the world' (not a word-for-word description but very close) The rice was re-heated and therefore dry, even partially crispy. The several very small pieces of beef were mainly quite tender but dry at the corners, and the thick sauce, although relatively tasty, was suspiciously reminiscent of coming from a good quality jar of base ingredients. The 'salad' consisted of chopped white cabbage in a sweet sauce. It was garnished in what looked like three strips of spring onion, but literally tasted more like three strips of green-ish coloured cardboard (and that's not being unkind).

All for the privilege of paying just over £12. I believe the star rating system is designed to guide customers to establishments which have earned their merits through hard work. If customers base their reviews on their giddy excitement at eating at at a restaurant they consider to be exotic, and feel they're pushing the boundaries of their personal cuisine comfort zone, then they are doing a disservice to their fellow travellers of...

Fantastic! I was wandering around the Old Town to get a bit of old Europe snowy charm and ducked into what I remembered as a little coffee place over beyond the central square. I had a beverage at the bar and was sitting there when an older fellow came up and ordered food to go. I heard "rendang" and 'laksa" and had a bit of a moment. Indonesian restaurant?!? So I ordered a few things to-go and...SUPER. Rendang: awsome. Nasi Goreng: tip-top. Laksa: good, but leaning more to the "coconut curry soup" they describe it as on the menu (fair enough), rather than Laksa with a capital L. (But to be fair it's hard to find a perfect laksa anywhere outside of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, etc. even when Indonesians are running the show, which I believe they are here). And so: I highly recommend. I'm giving five stars for the food. The interior is... well...brightly-lit-1980's-meets-airport waiting area (and not in some kind of "ok, it's a to-go joint" kind of way. It's a sit-down restaurant. If it could be cozied up a bit I would order "to-stay." But again, the food is excellent. And my short interaction with the staff was very nice. I wish them the best (and my interior design comment is "constructive criticism"-- Fix the interior and they could be a serious hotspot in this town. For sure. Cheers, and now I will...
