What I find curious, is how many sushi restaurant reviews whether on Google or TripAdvisor, are based on the westernised version of sushi- ie: rolls, ramen, tempura and teriyaki. Although I am certainly not a connoisseur, I am a sashimi enthusiast and addict. Spending over 50% of my year on the road, the first thing I look for is the best Japanese restaurants in the area. For me the measure of quality of a great sushi restaurant lies in their mastery of rice, the quality of the fish and their ability to marry these elements in a tasteful way. After 5 years in Europe and countless restaurants, I have to say this is by far the best Japanese restaurant I have been to, to date. Conceived 19 years ago, from their mutual passion for sushi, and deep desire to replicate an authentic Japanese sushiiya in Warsaw, Monika and her partner, gave birth to So-An Sushi Club. The quality of fish is unparalleled, the sushi rice is sublime and the purity of the traditional sushiya has been successfully established at this tiny restaurant, in the middle of a landlocked country. This is one of a handful of restaurants, where I eat sushi and sashimi without a speck of wasabi or soy sauce. If you want to experience pure, authentic sashimi/sushi, made of the very best quality ingredients available, then So-An Sushi club is a must. As for the rolls, you won’t have had anything like their rolls anywhere else! Another thing to try here is the Japanese vodka. It was so good, I bought a bottle (as she only had one left) to bring home to my husband. Finally, do yourself a favor and try her signature dessert, which includes a homemade compote of fruit from Monika's...
Read moreI stayed in Warsaw for multiple days and was looking for a good sushi restaurant in the city. After the good reviews and pictures convinced me and my colleague, we decided to come by for dinner. Sadly, the food was very disappointing. Considering the very high prices, we expected quality food. But the sushi were neither pretty nor tasty. Every roll contained a chunk of Wasabi, probably because the ingredients were not fresh. The expensive salmon sashimi I ordered were so thin, that you could almost see through them. The waiter was not able to understand me when I asked for Teriyaki sauce, despite it being a staple for sushi. Sushi is my favourite food, and as I travel around the world I get the chance to eat at many sushi restaurants all around the world. If you asked me where to find the worst sushi I can think of, here is your answer. Still, I will cut the restaurant some slack and give at least 2 stars. Since the restaurant was empty, I did not have to wait in line. I hope my review motivates the owner to work on the quality of their sushi, as the expensive prices give you the impression that you are about to...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at So An Sushi Club, and I can confidently say it was one of the best sushi experiences I’ve ever had!
From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was inviting and serene, with soft lighting and traditional Japanese decor that instantly set the mood for a delightful meal. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and promptly seated us, making us feel right at home.
The menu is extensive, featuring a wide variety of sushi rolls, sashimi, and traditional Japanese dishes. We started with a miso soup which was so flavorful.
For the main event, we ordered the chef's special sushi boat, which was a stunning display of artistry. Each piece was meticulously crafted, showcasing vibrant colors and fresh ingredients. The fish was incredibly fresh, melting in my mouth, and the flavor combinations were innovative yet respectful of traditional sushi-making practices.
The service throughout the evening was impeccable. Our server was attentive without being intrusive!
